A little advice needed

Hi all, i currently have a bmw 320d N47 (07) 177bhp which has started making a really loud chain noise which is going to be replaced at some point in the coming future, the car is now parked up as i dont want to cause any further damage.

Anyways whilst im having that work done to the vehicle i was thinking it would be an idea to remove the swirl flaps for precaution, ive read online that this model in not affected as such as the previous models.

So my question is can they be removed on this vehicle? what is the best way going about this? has anyone had them removed? noticed any difference in the way the car drives etc. Any thoughts or advice will kindly be appreciated.
