wavetrac diff fluid?

just placed an order for a wavetrac LSD now im just eagerly waiting! in the mean time I wanted to order the diff fluid i would need. I've read that since the wavetrac is not clutch based, it doesnt need the LSD friction specific diff fluids? just wanted to confirm if i can simply use the OEM diff fluid? or if anyone can recommend another fluid i should be using in the LSD and where i can order it!

I used OEM diff oil as recommended by Wavetrac. The only non-OEM fluid they recommend for our cars is the thicker Motul Gear Competition 75W140. But, you only need that if your car sees heavy track duty. OEM diff oil is fine for 99% of the people.

Yes, bought them through Maranello BMW. Unit has been great, I've been driving alot more with DTC off .
Only issue is a thump noise while shifting into gear, but that appears to be common with LSD's not specific to Wavetrac.

I think that noise is only common with Wavetrac and NOT the others.

Can anyone help me out, my dilemna is that I had purchased a wavetrac diff centre through a mate who runs a large aftermarket parts store (JDM stuff) he got a wavetrac lsd diff for me from another store that was much cheaper then buying it new and having it shipped from the us to Australia that was for a customers 2007 335i A/T but was never purchased.

I have a 2006 6MT & I initially had thought that all 2007 335i wavetracs were the same part number (30.309.170WK) so it should be interchangeable looking at their listing, but I only just noticed that late model 2007 have a different part # (30.309.175WK)

Since receiving the diff I cannot find any identification which states what model diff I have, is it possible to tell from the pics below:

AT will be a different part number because they have a different gear ratio 3.46. Late model 07s could be different because they're meant for a welded ring gear instead. Best to contact Wavetrac directly and confirm.

Looking at their application chart its the same part # for a pre 07 MT or AT:

Yes I realise the late models are different due to the welded ring gear, what I'm seeking is actually what diff centre I actually have, is it the 170WK or the later model 175WK?

I have sent them an email, just waiting, in the meantime I came across this thread and thought I would add a post as the forum is full of guys who are extremely knowledgeable and helpful

Do a little more research and you will see that you are incorrect and that it is not only specific to wavetrac. I have a wavetrac. I have had it for almost 20k and when I installed it I was very worried what the problem was and researched the hell out of it. Mine rarely does it anymore, it has slowly dwindled away since the install.

To the OP, I have been running Red Line oil in mine since the install and I have had zero problems.

Once you receive the diff, the documentation states to use oem fluid that the car was designed to be used with, as the other guys have stated the redline sn fluid is also highly recommended.
