I looked into a 320i before I picked up the D that I now have,

Whilst it was a lovely car to drive (i still think the lighter engine up front made the handling fantastic) I couldnt get on with the power delivery.

That said both myself and the other half know it was due to the fact that I was getting rid of a tuned Astra VXR which was savage.

Since having my 325D though my driving style has changed dramatically. Im now happier to sit in the first lane of the motorway at 65 as the car encourages it as the Astra encouraged you to be a bit boisterous.

Now my circumstances have changed I am considering going back to petrol. Part of me would love to stay 6 cylinder but with the amount it'll get used and the way it'll be driven im leaning towards the possibility of a 320 or even a 520i now.

My first BMW was a 318. It was nice to finally have a car that was reliable and well built and fairly new after having an old high HP Turbo 90's hot hatch. It wasn't fast but went well enough when driven hard.

Now after having a 335d & M3 I think I'd always want a high HP BMW, and probably only an ///M now as they are the complete package.

You are having the same experience I have had. In my previous cars V6's it was about getting from A to B as quickly as I could with a white knuckle ride and the roar of the V6 and 15mpg. Now I sit back and relax. I have even started to listen to music in the car.

My wife can't believe it. No more rev reving she says with your silly twin toilet role holders sticking out the back. At 46 I have finally grown up apparently!!

Haha this made me laugh. I suppose we all have to one day. You have got 22 years on me so I've got a few to go yet. Although the wife does keep telling me to

Certainly a quick car in a straight line, however they do struggle with the corners at speed.

I was getting 28mpg round town but that was driving it really gently.

The m32 gearbox is unfortunately flawed and known for blowing their bearings out at a cost of 1500 at least.

The box is only rated to 320nm of torque which is the standard cars output..

I bought mine with blinkers on and "had" to have one. I was lucky enough to have no problems but looking back I should of got a focus st!!

Did you leave her standard? Or did you remap etc?

I think they can reliably run 300HP (ok not 'box) with a remap, exhaust and FMIC.

Mine had a full remus turbo back exhaust and the previous owner mentioned it had been mildly mapped at some point so running around 280 I believe.

The engine is capable of around 300 bhp but as said, unfortunately there have been gearboxes that arent!

Totally agree. Had the edition 30 before the R running 265PS, brilliant when you got going but from start the poor thing couldn't handle the power like the R

I had a 116i before I bought the E92 - the 1er forums were much friendlier than I've seen this one. Generally on here you get some attitude or smart arse remark rather than anything constructive (on any topic by he way, not just models)

It's the same for the 'should I swap the 335i for an M3' threads. Totally different beasts and it depends entirely about what your requirements are. My guess for 90% of people asking hat question is that they want to be abe to tell their mates they have an M3 and willy wave.
What are you on about?...

so if I want an M3, it's for "willy wave"?

Most people on here enjoy driving...especially if you buy a car like a 335i and lots of the members mod it as well....as in remap....just to make it go a bit faster...

they all ask the question about moving to the M3 because, they really want to know how different an M car is! Nothing to do about willy waiving....

Secondly if your not into modding the engine or modding the car itself. What do you expect to gain from this forum. The reason a lot of people mod there car is to look a bit different from the next and add a personal touch to it which appeals to them. It's not about buying the next model up if you want a better car. Most modders will start with a fairly powerful car mostly over 200bhp.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys or if anyone feels different

No matter how much I like the Type Rs, been a member of the DC5 forum for years and before getting the 335i, I was torn between 335i or Integra DC5...( in the end I went for the 335i).

I also like the S2K ( AP2) and the New Civics FN2 and FD2....

BUT....

In terms of performance (std) and straight line speed....a 335 will shit all over a Type R...

In terms of modding, you will get more horses from the 335i...NA engine don't respond as well as a turbo to tuning...

Not saying that the 335i is a better car...but that "your type r is no 335i in terms of performance!" DAMN RIGHT!

I'm only referring to performance by the way... A to B time and bhp figures...

To be honest I'd had a rotten week at work and a couple of beers when I wrote that. Guess I was venting my own anger in the wrong way. BUT I still stand by some of my comments about the forum being a bit unfriendly to those that aren't in the boys club of the big models. I've seen a lot of smart arse responses of that nature to things before.

Of course a 335i is faster/better etc than a type R and it should be at twice the price!

As should an M3 be better than the 335i. Guess my point was that on public roads, can you really drive an M3 faster than a 335i?

It's not a max power modded car forum though is it? I actually enjoy reading about the mods that people do, sometimes impressed by it and at other times in disbelief at the bad taste and waste of money (the one with the red Porsche wheels by way of example...). Have to say most fall into the first category and I like to see them.

What I joined for was for a bit of education / help etc on the cars, problems I might see etc etc. believe it or not also for mods i might do, although I personally won't be spending thousands on it.

I know... My point about it being a 'modding forum' is just that, it isn't advertised or run as ONLY a modding forum.

You said 'what did I hope to get from the forum if I wasn't into modding' so I said so. If he likes it then it's none of my business as you rightly say. The same with other peoples mods.

For the record I don't shit on other peoples mods - its up to them. I've read that build but not worth making comment on, for the sake of it. - the red wheels was by way of example of one I don't like.

Never said that a Type R is BETTER than a 335i! as better can be very subjective....and mean something different for each one of us...

But faster on a straight ...yes.

Lots of threads on M3 v/s modded 335i on here and especially on the US section.

I really haven't seen many threads where 335i owners having a go at owners with smaller engines?

Just because 335 owners tend to remap and go for bolt on mods and say how fast their car is, doesn't mean that we think that smaller engines are sh1t. Well I don't.
