Steering Column Problem

Today I woke up to find my car has the CCID-187 error. Basically wont start due to the steering wheel lock mechanism being stuck. Ive been following the DIY, but I'm stuck. I can't turn the wheel to get a better angle on the column pinch bolt. (Step 10-12 here. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=483387)

Anyone been able to figure out a better way to do this? I've jacked up the car and removed the bottom cover, but still cant see any way to access it. I really don't want to tow the car the 60 miles to the dealer and pay them $1000 for something I normally could do myself.

Try charging your battery. Sometimes that problem happens because the battery is undercharged.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Towed it to the dealer yesterday. $1300 for a new column. Ouch! That hurt my wallet.
