Tranny filter/oil change
Ok so I did pretty much all the maintance I could think of for a 80k mile BMW but I still need to change my rear diff fluid and transmission fluid/filter.
My friend can get me a discount on OEM parts so I would like to go that route. My question is exactly what parts do I need to do a full transmission fluid change?

Well I'm new to e90post.com but from what I personally experienced, do not drive your car with no transmission fluid, this is how I lost my transmission. The transmission could very well leave in 2 months, or 2 hours.... But if you need to do it, u can save $100 buy just buying a special pump. The reason you need this pump is so no air gets into your transmission.

I recently did this job, mind you that you will need a bit more than a gallon. I had something close to 6-7 quarts that needed to be filled after draining ( i simply measured how much i took out and put back in the same using a pump hose)
The trickiest part is replacing the filter neck gasket. I didnt replace mine as it looked fine and i was having a hard time getting the old one out and didnt want to score the metal. |

Well I doubt you're tranny would run very long without fluid. You can always take it to a shop have them lift the car and check for you.

Just letting you guys know.
My mechanic just did tranny fluid change PROPERLY and he used 20 litres of fluid. 10 litres to pump into oil pan and torque converter. Then he used the rest to pump the fluid from cooler line to remove the old oil (similar idea when you reflush brake fluid). I have no idea how he ended using 20 litres but that's what happened. Car was done 66,000 km and the oil is black!!!

Do 6mt's need to do a tranny filter swap or is that only an auto thing? O.o

Not for MTs - they don't have a 'filter'. It's an auto box thing...
