Procrastination delayed -- Interior wrap

Well, after about a month of procrastinating with my vinyl wrapping, my disgusting wood trim is gone. Hello brushed aluminum, you are more than welcome

Cell phone pictures in bad lighting, but you can get an idea of the improvement

where did you get the vinyl from and how much did you need?

i saw metrorestylin has 3m 1080 scotchprint in brushed steel i was thinking of trying out but want to make sure the pattern goes the long way on the 1ft x 5ft section, not vertical.

I purchased a 48x48 sheet from metrorestyling and was able to complete the whole interior - 4drs, center console (2pcs), shift console, shift knob, steering wheel, rear console, and still had a little left over. I used cf pattern, so I had to be careful to match the pattern. You shouldn't have any problems w/having enough material using the brushed look, since you don't have to worry about lining it up.

Yep, first time using vinyl. Didn't find it difficult, but it can be a little tedious, especially at first. By the time I was finishing the last pieces I was cranking them out with no mistakes, so it definitely gets easier and easier the more you do it. Definitely give it a shot!

I got it from metrorestyling as well:
http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-Sco...1080-br120.htm

I originally bought a small piece off amazon to make sure I liked it. I think I ended up going 3x5 or 4x5. Just email them making sure that you want the grains running horizontally; that's what I did and it came out perfect

I was wondering, did you guys have any deep scratches or dents on your trim? i'm kind of concerned that the scratches and dents will show even if I wrap mines.

Since I have an E92 do you think the 60x36 (15 sq/ft) will be enough?

Don't remember seeing any scratches/dents (it's been a few years since I wrapped mine). You could try filling them in since you won't see it once it's wrapped. Just make sure to sand it down real good to a smooth surface.

Depending on which way the pattern goes, measure the parts as if they were all laid out on the sheet together. Make sure 60in is either wide or long enough to cover them and that 36in will cover them whichever way the 60 doesn't (hope that didn't confuse you). Also, be sure to add in another inch or two, per part, to cover wrapping over the edges. You can never have too much, but it's not good to have not enough (material).

How close is this to the OEM brushed aluminum trim?

Hard to tell from the pix...

Oh, I won't be buying a pattern.. I'm going to be buying a solid color so I was wondering if that 60x36 (15 sq/ft) is going to be enough and I don't know what to use to fill in those dents and scratches with. Don't tell me I have to bondo my trim?

I understand you won't have a pattern (which is good). I was saying to be sure the 36in will be wide enough to cover the trim and have an extra inch for wrapping. I don't remember exactly, but I think the length of just my dash trim (e90 sedan) was right around 36in (or just over, but close to it). That's why I went w/the 48x48 b/c I knew it would be wide enough for the longest piece and long enough to comfortably cover all pieces together w/room to spare. Again, measure the longest piece of trim and that will let you know if 36in is wide enough. I think you're good w/60in being long enough.

As for what to use to fill in the scratches/dents......there are several easy-to-use fillers out. Regardless of what you need to do to "fix" the trim, I'd suggest doing that up front so you won't be kicking yourself later when you've put in all that time wrapping and then have to see the imperfections through it (just my $.02 - I'm anal like that).
