Cracked alloys when out of warranty?!!

Just had my 2008 E92 330d in at the dealers for a service, and they've advised one of the rear alloys is cracked, and they've quoted 550 for a new one.

I've said ok its out of warranty, but the car has full BMW history, wont BMW do this on goodwill, or at least put money to it?

Anyone had any joy with getting these replaced when the car is out of warranty?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll get them to do anything unfortunately. Wheels/tires aren't even covered when you have full warranty. You can certainly try talking to them, but I doubt they will. Time for new wheels

I don't know about the UK but here could probably get a decent aftermarket set for that kind of money. You could try calling BMW corporate directly and try your luck with a goodwill warranty but it may not work.

You could go down the path of repairing it too, if the crack isn't too bad. There's companies that go door-to-door here, that will professionally repair and repaint a rim depending on the extent and location of damage. A good option if you're looking to save $$$ (sorry, can't find the character for pounds).

I'd have it checked by a 3rd party. Not sure how dealers are in the UK, but I had the dealer tell me that both of my front wheels were "severly bent and beyond repair, and I would to replace them with new tires..."

Went to a local BMW specialist shop, and it turns out 1 wheel wasn't bent, and the other was easily fixed.

Maybe the wheel is cracked, but I'd get a second opinion just to be sure.

I just recently did this same exact process and I was able to get a replacement free of charge, but with some hardship involved

My arguments

1. Wheel has no visible signs of dent, curb, or looks out of round
2. New 225m's obviously has a new design compared to the old one
3. Car is still under warranty til Mar 2014

See photos of the New 225m's and note the bigger lip and strengthened barrel design and maybe you can show these pictures and prove that the old style 225m wheels have a faulty design and you could get BMW UK to replace it free of charge

My photos and videos are at http://www.photobucket.com/19inch

Hope this helps!

Cheers guys, think I'm going to get the cracked wheel checked by the dealer, and then get on to BMW customer services and see what they say.
