Oh right, I meant my car is still on its original pads at 5x,000 miles so I know that it must be motorway otherwise they would have been changed by now surely.

The mileage is an obvious sign? You don't do 60000 miles in three years bumbling around town at 15mph.

You can only really do those sorts of miles in that time period, going up and down motorways. I guess if you needed some more evidence, try having a look when he's had the tyres changed. If he's done 30k miles to a set of tyres, he has probably been almost exclusively on a motorway.

I'd rather a car that's been used properly and has higher miles than a low mileage car which has been cold started a lot and never got upto temp etc.

With regards to the dealer, I was very interested in the E91 they have, but seen the price on that yoyo in a month or so. They were also pretty rude to SWMBO when she called to see if we could view the car so that cancelled any chance of a sale.

I'd much rather have a car thats done 60000 miles on the motorway in 6th gear, cruising than a car that's done 60000 miles a year bouncing around town, crunching gears, using the clutch, going over speed bumps, clipping curbs etc.
This is a very good point.

My 335d sits at 2k revs doing just under 80mph. My old 1.6 clio would sit at 4k revs doing 80mph on the motorway.

So I guess if I did 10k motorway miles in the 335d at 2k revs, surely 10k motorway miles in the clio at 4k (working twice as hard) is more like 20k in the clio?

I can't quite remember what my point was. I'm now not even sure if the above makes sense...

read the evo article by Harry Metcalfe.

"Range Rover components, not considered to be wear and tear parts, - 150 000 miles or ten years before replacement, VW - 10 years or 186 000 miles.

Engineers expect engines to last 300 - 500 000 miles before anything other than regular service is required. Reliability hinges around the failure of electrical components".

09 plate with 60 000 - not high really - but each to their own.
