where to buy a preowned BMW in HK?

hi

I will be posting to work in hk soon for 1 or 2 years starting next month.
Am planning to buy a car and was wondering where would be a good place to start?

In addition, is there a BMW forum in HK much in the mould like bmw.sg?

Kindly advise. Thanks!

Your best bet is to find a private owner and negotiate a deal directly. I've encountered a lot of shady practices at the automalls in HK like:

- I see many cars that show ~27K km on the odometer but the seats and pedals show A LOT of wear.

- Most cars get bumper and hood resprays (some good some not so good). but when you ask, most will tell you "no repaint". Actually this is a good test of honesty of the sales guy. Just look for the paint chips that got painted over to be sure.

- Just saw a car (a lexus RX450h) that had beige leather seats but the door and dash panels had light grey leather. I've never seen any Lexus that had that sort of mismatch. Asked the salesman if the seats had been changed and he looked at me like I was crazy.

I actually just sold my 2010 E92 (see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=hkm) through the 28car.com website after 2 days of advertising. To give you a sense of market pricing, it went for $350K and I had a multiple bid situation so I got my full asking price. On the other hand, a dealer told me he just sold an identical 2010 325 Coupe with 33K km for $315K. But that car had stock rims and no upgrade. Good luck with your search, I love this part its a lot of fun!!

Hi hkm, thank you for sharing your experiences.
Surprised to learn it is ok for dealers to temper with the odometer, where i came from is illegal to change that.

To avoid the hassle, i think we will get a new car albeit a simpler one.
Went to see the Mini Countryman and A class yesterday.
Was really impressed with the A class but it will only be available in April / June.
The countryman looks a steal with the promotional price at ~350k HKD, same car would easily cost in excess of 200k SGD back home.

A few places are having promotions to clear out MY12 stock. I'd suggest asking around at the different dealerships to see what kinds of deals are out there. I saved something like $60K by purchasing my E92 when they were clearing out for the 2010 facelift. As a result my depreciation hit when I sold it this month was a lot less painful.
