Having trouble finding gas on the East Coast?
Just wondering, with the aftermath of Sandy, how E9X drivers are coping with the gas shortage, and the tragedy itself. I know the NY city area is an absolute mess, I have many friends who have lost their homes all together in Queens and Staten Island.. Gas lines here are stretching upwards of 10 blocks in many cases. Police are at many stations keeping the peace, and many stations are shut off all together because they're all out of gas, or have no power to pump. What we're being fed, is that it is not a supply issue, it is a delivery issue. Either way, it looks like something out of a movie over here and makes me realize we are WAY too dependent on gasoline, whether using it to power a car or a generator..
What situations have you guys run into on the east coast? Low quality iPhone pictures, my apologies.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() +1 for this lucky E92 driver, wish others could have been as lucky with their homes.. ![]() ![]()

Oh it's a shit show in New Jersey, and it's only going to get worse with this new imposition Christie put in, but I'd rather wait for gas then, say, be dead.
Got to be grateful for every day, and feel horrible for those who lost homes and their lives...

My car is still safe and sound at the body shop with the full tank of gas I left her with
no problems for me. I'll just train/walk everywhere till the delivery issue goes away. They say it's gonna be like this for another week. |

What happens when somebody runs out of gas while in line? I heard those lines are 3-6 hours.

Hopefully the gas stations get opened back up soon, or someone should build a pipeline from Pittsburgh to Philly. J/k

I heard a week until things are back to normal, when you pull in, fuel up and pull out, but hopefully things are less crazy within a day or two, people need to get to work and school.. TLC cars are going crazy out there...

We're bringing gasoline to relatives in north Jersey who have a generator, but no gas. What's interesting is I doubt you could buy a gas container from MA to DC. Normally, it would be like how many gas cans would you buy at $20 ea.? Maybe one in ten years? Now people are hoarding them. The factory owner in Indiana is grinning from ear to ear, they can't even keep up with demand.
These events bring out the best and worst in people. Unfortunately, imho there's more worst than there is best. for those who see the glass as half full instead, bless you for your way of thinking. ![]() |

The natural disasters that the coasts experience might be the only advantage Ohio has over them.
Everything sucks here, but Mother Nature rarely dicks us as hard as the coasts. |

Let's hope that no desperate worker in that shop will suck the gas out of your tank.

I waited on a gas line for 3 hours today just to find out that they didn't have premium gas.
![]() ![]() In the end I only got 5 gallons for our generator.Last edited by cb2188; 11-06-2012 at 04:20 PM. |

Having suffered a number of hurricanes in Florida the only difference I see between NY and Florida is that Florida hurricanes usually happen when it is still very hot out. You can survive but it isn't pleasant. NY now getting cold and getting a Norester is going to be hurting again.
Gas lines in Florida, no there usually are none because days before this happens people go hord all the gas they can. Not unusual to have no gas for weeks on end and no power, water or sewage either. You quickly learn to adapt and typically if your home is destroyed and many are you find friends to stay with, family or you leave until services are restored. The dense population in NY must make this issue about 10 times worse. Think about flooded subways with salt water. Everything will have to be replaced and that doesn't happen overnite either. It will be years before full infrastructure is back in place. Where I live we have no pipelines like everyone else does we have to barge fuel in which is why there are weeks to months before it is available again. Here we have gas or diesel gen sets but NY that only works if you have a rural area or high rise that has one that didn't get flooded. If you have never been through this before it is hard to appreciate simple things like power, heat and food... |

No Premium...
Also on Long Island, have bought gas twice since filling up (premium) prior to Sandy, half tank of regular both times. Things here seem to be getting a bit better in terms of lines but there is still no premium to be found. Assuming things "normalize" a bit, and the stations finally get premium again, planning to take it down to 1/8 tank or so then fill it up... we'll see after the next storm comes through...
