what can i expect from the dealer?

So i bought this CPO 335xi 2 years ago and about a year ago i noticed something was up on a part of the front bumper, it was a kind of greyish area that i thought was some kind of scratch so i tried to buff it out. Nothing happened. I took it to a body shop and they said it was something wrong with the clear coat and that someone had done a terrible job. The problem is that under my ownership nothing has been done to the car that involved anything to do with the clear coat or paint. But it wasnt that bad so i decided i didnt want to waste the money. However, now its noticeable as hell and has turned white and im pissed. There is also a scratch that the dealership tried to touch up less than a year ago and now its turned white too.

Do you guys think i should be able to get the dealership to do something?

Take it to the dealership, and try to get them to fix it. Did the car have accidents recorded when you purchased? Could be a repainted bumper or a new bumper that was painted bad, if so. Play dumb and tell the truth, and you should be good!

A car doesn't have to have a salvaged title to have prior damage. The question is, was it fixed properly?

There have been several post lately about customers buying COP'd cars with resprayed bumpers.

If that is your case as and the re-spray is faulty then they owe you a correctly painted bumper. You are going to need to push them to even tell you if the car has any paint work at all to begin with, after that you can start to argue the correctness of the job.

Most stealers suck and will typically not help you. They love to take your money upfront ie cpo or prepaid maintenance, but forget it when you need them to step up to the plate.

Avoid the brain damage and get it resprayed correctly, unless you enjoy fighting. Cpo is only good if the engine/ drive train grenades...

i mean if they have done something wrong they are going to pay to fix it, nothing to do with CPO...but trust me they will just be paying for it, they wont be doing it

It's already has been 2 years..

No, they will not do anything.

Most of CPO bumpers are repainted.

Expecting the dealer to even think about rectifying a paint issue on a used car they sold two years ago is ridiculous.

If you don't like the way your paint looks on your 5 year old car, pay someone to paint it.

"You bought 2 years ago"

Dont expect anything from the dealer. Especially since you come from CT. Lots of snow over there. (even though last year we barely got any)

Start saving for a new Mtech bumper. Or repaint and clear bra if you feel winter just makes these types of mod useless.

+1... If you didn't make a fuss about it 2 years ago when you bought the car- the dealership doesn't owe you anything. They will say it's part of the "wear" on a 5 year old car.

Seeing it from the dealers point of view, anything could've happened in this 2 year period.

You act like there is some international BMW database for tracking what cars have had their bumpers resprayed. CPO is a glorified extended warranty. There is nothing special about a CPO car, they are just used cars. Everyone here is trying to tell you that the dealer will not and should not do anything for you. You are being completely unreasonable if you even bring it to their attention.

A car can be resprayed, touched up and what not by the dealer without it having an accident on the title etc. usually 99% of the time a used car is touched up before its sold if there is any type of damage. usually this translates to an increased price. if a car is going to auction and the dealer doesnt want to put money into the car then the scratches or gouges will stay.

A cpo car doesnt mean it was never hit with any type of paint to make it look as good as new.

Find out if your paint is warrantied. The best thing you can prob do is to contact bmwna and let them know you weren't made aware of the respray.

That's the definition of wear and tear. My bumper was getting pretty bad from 60-75 miles of daily commuting, and to get rid of the chips and knicks I had my whole bumper repainted.

Yeah? Well let me spell it out nice and easy for you so you can understand... And while we're at it, here's the definition of wear and tear for you-

You can't buy a car from a dealership, notice something one year later, wait another year, and then try to take the car back to the dealer and claim it was their fault. The car has been in your possession for TWO YEARS. For all they know-YOU did it.
