Bent a Rim on a Pothole...will the city replace it?

Was driving on Erin Mills today and hit a massive pothole and bent a rear driver side rim. Is there a number or website I can go to to file a claim with the city of mississauga to replace it? I have a 500 deductable so insurance is not an option. Can I ask the city to replace my rim?

Try repairing it... I had my rims fixed by Union Rim Repair (401/Dufferin)..

That was going to be my next option, but iif the city will cover the replacement cost I would rather do that.

Very interested to see if the government takes care of it. Never even thought about that.

I am in Albuquerque, and had a similar pot hole hit that bent my two passenger side rims (stock 189s) and the city paid to replace both with brand new OEM wheels. I never knew it was an option but my parents mentioned it to me and told me to go back and take a picture of the huge hole. When I got there there was already a crew filling it. Luckily the city reimbursed me anyway.

Following the link to "how to file a claim"

Vehicle Damage - I have driven over a City road pothole, debris or manhole cover and have damaged my car. What do I do?

Answer

Be sure to see a licensed vehicle mechanic to determine the extent of damage. Contact your automobile insurance company as you may have coverage for this type of loss. Alternatively, submit your claim in writing to the City's Risk Management unit using the "How to file a claim" procedure.

The City of Mississauga has an inspection program which complies with the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (Ontario Regulations 239/02) under the Municipal Act. The City’s inspections must be shown to have been deficient in order for the City to be held responsible for damages caused to your vehicle.

you have to prove that the city neglected to repair a pothole for 14 consecutive days in order to file for a compensation.
I tried this once in Markham and that's the answer I got
even if they attempted to patch it up but failed counts as a repair
its retarded and a waste of time imo

Ya but how does that make sense because if I already ran over the pothole it was obviosly neglected or it wouldn't have been there....

take many pics.

As well, you will mostly likely need to take a few pics of where the pothole is and the size of it and how deep it is.

you don't want to wait and wait and the insurance comes back to you saying, 'this is missing, that is missing'

yea that's what I said but the city told me you mist give them a 14 day window from the reported date for them to fix because of the city workload

most likely you'll have to go though insurance...

in my old car a blown truck tire was flying all over the highway and the city of brampton basically said to me if your ok they can't do anything but they'll send someone to go get that flying blown tire, but contact your insurance company as they are responsible for fixing it....

but your case is a bit different i know some people who were reimbursed but after a while... they had to pay for it out of their own pocket while it got "processed"

I see what your saying but a truck tire is different then public roads. We pay taxes and part of our tax money goes to repairs and maintenance for roads which are the governments responsibility.

Got this auto message after sending the email:

'Thank you for your inquiry. While every effort will be made to address your e-mail immediately, please allow up to four weeks for initial contact to be made.

Risk Management & Insurance Services
City of Mississauga'

For some reason I feel as if they are going to take the entire 4-weeks.

In Toronto, I think it takes about 8-12 weeks.

There was a Toronto Sun news article reporting that city hired a 3rd party insurance adjuster to look after all claims and they will try to reject 90% or more of those claims and yet still make a hefty fees from the City.

I wouldn't doubt it. I understand its impossible to make all roads completely pot-hole free..... but you should have seen the size of this one. It bent my passenger front and rear rim.

PS: I submitted a claim to the city of toronto in October 2011, got my money in May 2012. Two bent rims replaced (just the lips), $1500. I took pics and filed the next day and I was on them like fly on shit since. Tough, but doable.

good luck man - its going to be a pain in the ass but you are right, stay on them and hope you get some compensation. Roads are terribly maintained these days. Thank god driving the X is alot easier over bumps than driving my old E90 with coils and m3 rims.
