Hi,

all will need some tyres very soon.

was thinking if ditching runflats and going to normal + can

looking around i can see Falkens crop up and Vredestein

falkens are available on the usual online sites in the correct sizes

225 40 18 front

255 35 18 rear

but i can not see the rear Vredestein online anywhere, am i missing something?

Out of those 2 I would say vreds, they get very good reviews

lovetyres.com were cheapest for my vreds when I got them.

Having had both Falken and Vreds in the past, I will always choose the Vreds given the choice of them two.

just checked and it shows for all 4 verds a price of £516.20

was wondering if that is a good price.

The vreds do seem to last longer. I had problems with the Falkens wearing quickly on the inside edge. I went through a few pairs on the front of my A3, after having 4 wheel alignment, tracking and a host of other things done. Then put on vreds. Saying that, I sold the car a few k later, so not really sure about the tread wear there.


Only done about 2-3k on the current vreds, but they barely look used. Just took them off the 335d as winter tyres went on, and they still look brand new. Still got the furry bits on them and everything.

Never tried the centos, only the sessantas. So can't comment on how they compare to each other.

Love the funky tread pattern on the sessantas though. And they are really good in the wet. And lets face it, thats more often than not here...

I've been using a set of 19" vredstein Ultrac Sessantas for just over a year now.Ive got 4mm on the rear and 5mm on the front and they have lasted 11,000 mixed miles.
I've noticed that they are quite noisy,but overall I've been quite pleased with them and would recommend them.
I had Falken 452s on my Impreza-they were ok,but reading numerous reviews about their (lack of) ability in the wet,I won't be putting them or their replacement on the BMW.
I'm going to replace the rears first at 3mm and get some F1 Assymetric 2's.
I can get a bit of a discount @£190 each,fitted but I'm hoping that this will offset on them lasting a bit longer than 11k.
I also thought about Contis,but apparently,although awesome,they are very soft and not suited for our roads,hence they wear out very quickly.

Should last longer than 11k though. Assuming 8mm when new:

You have used about 4mm in 11k, so around 2750 miles per mm. Change them at 3mm, and the rears will have lasted near 14k. Not too shabby really for rear tyres on a 335d.

The fronts, however, have used 3mm in 11k, so damn near 4k per mm. So another 2mm on them will see you around the 19k mark on the front. Not really too shabby.

Run them until they are at 2mm instead fo 3mm (still legal) and your looking at 16k rears and 23k fronts. Even better.

No experience of the centos but ran my old M3 CS on sessantas and they were very good tyres; good performance in both the wet and the dry and reasonable on wear as well. The Vreds replaced PS2's and, although some look down their nose at them as not being a premium tyre, for me they were every bit as good as the Michelins whilst costing a fair bit less.

I'd also endorse the recommendations for lovetyres as I recently got a set of Goodyear AS2's from them and couldn't fault their service or price. I was going to fit Ultrac Sessantas to the 335i to replace the run-flats but to be honest the Vreds seemed to have crept up in price since I last bought a set for the M3 and in the end the AS2's were only about £50 more for the set. Therefore, I decided to give them a go as the reviews all seemed very positive; only done about 1k miles on them but impressions are favourable so far!

Not a dig,but I'm not bothered about what I can get away with.I believe tests have shown that running a car at 3mm offers no real world benefits than letting them wear down to the limit.I see the negative effects of aquaplaning and poor maintenance often and it's not nice sometimes.
Although its not causing me any issues,I am noticing more loss of traction as the mileage is increasing.
Possibly a bit melodramatic and I don't have money to burn,but I value my life more than a few hundred quid and a couple of mm.

Thats entirely fair enough. I am the same. Would rather change at 3mm than 2mm myself. My main point was not that your changing too early, but just highlighting what you should actually get before you change them, according to your preference, rather than just what you have now.

I was just pointing out that even at 3mm with your wear rate, your still 14/19k for a set. So not exactly bad for a fast, heavy motor. With the Vreds being around 20% cheaper, you would need the Goodyears to do 17/23k to offset the cost.

And if you were so inclined to leave them a while longer, while still staying within the law, you would get 16/23k. (Or 19/28k to offset).

I used ultrac cento on my Citroen c4 and they really good. But is for fwd car and I dind try on my bmw yet.
They good on heavy rain in motorway.

got the vreds staggered correct size, from tyremen.co.uk for £448 inc next day delivery, over £50 cheaper then anywhere else

they will be going on tomorrow

vreds are on, have to let them bed in before i can take them to the limits and see how they react

from initial feeling, they seem to be very good, way before ride then the runflats.

other half has approved aswell, as road bumps and holes are not felt as much anymore.
