Registering catless in ca

My question is- if go to the DMV and my pipes are the catless ones installed (W appropriate smog clearance in hand) wouldn't they know? And, if they found my catless pipes on there, what would be the recourse?

once you have the smog paperwork you will be able to register the car. they don't do any inspections or anything. once they see all the required paperwork everything will go smoothly.

only time anyone would try to find out if you don't have any cats is if police enforcement hassles you for anything.

I thought they turned on the car at the DMV and did some sort of
Inspection there- remember,
Mine is an out of state car coming through.

Nope, I just recently registered a car with straight pipes all the way back (race car) and they didn't do an inspection other than verifying VIN/Mileage. It was also out of state, purchased in Oregon, brought down to CA, had it smogged "passed" and took it to my AAA office (they do registrations and such as well).

yup, i'd say do it through them. I was in and out in under an hour with new plates in hand instead of waiting for dmv to ship them.
