My 330d stolen sat week but still have the keys

My car was stolen last week and I have all the keys.

How was this done I'm asking myself and anyone who may have suffered the same.

Sorry to hear about your car, are you asking how they have stolen it without the key?

Sad to hear that.

I thought you were very up to speed about BMWs.

It has been covered about 10million times on this forum, every other car forum and even tv in recent months.

Now it has been gone a week it is unlikely to be seen again.

Hopefully a good settlement is all you can hope for now.

Shit, another one? Take it you hadn't done any obd mods?

Hope the other mods were declared or that could get expensive.

I was told by various sources that models upto 2007 couldn't be taken.
I didn't have the obd port disabled for that reason.
I have now got a new obd port ready for if I get another bmw but with them easily knicked and cracked wheels I may have a change.
The jag xf looks nice.

Gutted for you Chris. I know the amount of work you had done to get it as you wanted. I also know how particular you are with your cars. I hope you get this sorted soon. Get another one and stay on here.

The unfortunate folly of believing anything BMW say about thefts of this marque, lets face it they denied this scenario for over a yr,before getting busted by Watchdog yet again! (wheels first)

It's clear that pre 2007 cars are just as vulnerable as post 2007 cars are,but BMW are only covering cars up to 5yrs old.

Regardless of age,if the car has a fob + push button start, the OBD needs moving,if only for peace of mind,IMO.

That sucks
I figured it was BS cars pre-2007 where unaffected.
Why would the security get worse?
I am also sceptical about 2011 cars and onwards being unaffected. Would not be surprised to read a 2011/2012 car being taken by the same way.

If there was no broken glass, I reckon they will have forced the lock with a screw driver and lowered your windows. Reached in and programmed new key...

I have a second ODB port ready to install. Hidden the original already, and going to install the fake in its place.
Hopefully that way they would assume nothing is amiss and that there machine is broken.
If its missing they may just start looking for it...

OP, you must be mistaken, afterall BMW assured us that no car older than March 2007 could be stolen using this method... surely they can't have lied AGAIN?

Absolute bollocks and now a 3rd lie from BMW (1st = "BMW wheels don't crack, owners must be driving them down pot holes", 2nd = "BMW's can't be stolen using the OBD method", 3rd = "Only BMW's from 3/2007 to 2010 can be stolen using the OBD method".

Can you call BMW and tell them you have had your car stolen in this way? What have the Police said?

Scares the crap out of me too!

My cars parked up at a hotel near Heathrow....
or it was when I left it two weeks ago.

They wanted me to leave the key so they could 'move it if necessary'.
I told them bollocks, and kept the key with me.

I hope its still there when I get back.

i have spoke with bmw and as far as they were aware its only m power models being targeted.
they would not confirm or deny wether cars older than 2007 could be stolen but as watchdog was aired 5 weeks ago they should have a security fix in 3 weeks but they can`t confirm what models it will cover.
i accused them of covering it up and hoping it would go away!

I may speak to watchdog myself.

The police rang me this morning to say they have fianalised the case and nothing was being picked up on the amrp cameras which i find hard to believe, there aren`t many blue m sports driving around in the 7 hour time slot in which it was parked up,stolen and reported.

ANPR cameras only read number plates and you cannot search for a model of vehicle on it. if the plates were removed which they probably were the cameras are rendered useless.

Sorry to hear that you car is gone.

I have personally tested pre-2007 and you can get the 'sensitive information' through OBD when car is parked, and locked.

And as hotcoupe mentioned, BMW is trying to cover 5 years old car as most of car manufacturers do under the good will gesture.

I hope insurance company settles it reasonably well.
