Chrome Grill to Black

Abit slow on the uptake, but discovered Plasti Dip at the weekend. Decided to convert my grill from Chrome to Matt Black.

Appreciate its on my new 520d but the principles are the same.

Where did you buy the plasti dip from? One can enough?

What can be done if it ever gets a stone chip? Re do it all? What about motorway insects? Do they wash off easy?

Thanks

Plenty of places to buy the stuff. eBay, plasti dip uk etc. I've used about half a can on the grill. My next project tomorrow is to paint my brush aluminium window trim.

To gloss it, you can buy plasti dip gloss which you use after spraying the grill black. I'm having trouble tracking down a can of it at the moment.

Regards dirt etc....that will all wash off with a jet wash. This stuff is now pretty much stuck on there. Stone chips......don't know but to be honest and from what I've seen..it's difficult to chip.

If you put enough layers on it will not chip whatsoever from stones

Vastly more durable than paint.

I did my other half's and 2 1/2years later it looks as fresh as day 1

buy it from frost.co.uk at least you know you're getting genuine stuff. its the same price as on ebay anyway.

i bought some on ebay and some from frost. it was quite apparent the ebay stuff pitched as "genuine" either wasn't or was very old stock.

the original stuff has printed cans, the ebay stuff didn't.

btw, you stand a better chance of getting a uniform finish if you move the can, spraying in slow continuous movements, rather than lots of little blasts.
