Tow hook is more than a tow hook lol!!

I posted ths in my RB install thread but decided to make a seperate thread for it.

Most people may know this but the tow hook can be used to lift the motor also...when on a jack it is pretty easy to lift the motor left and right to line up motor mounts by hand:

Did you had any leaks? I've noticed that stock lines tend to break over heat and time.

My waste gates where rattling because the 2 lines under the engine cover where cracked in multiple spots from the stock lines. I replaced the lines and the formed hard lines as you can see in the pic.

Yep. BMW has a special tool that sits on the 2 fenders and goes across. It grab's onto this hook so you can suspend the engine and remove the front sub frame. Key for replacing turbo's.

I see. Very nice. I guess the fenders are strong enough to support the weight.

Can someone confirm that the Harborfreight tool works on our cars? I don't see how the tow hook meets up with those flimsy chains & hook gizmos without putting too much horizontal strain on them to support the engine in place after the subframe is loose.

Can you clarify what you mean? The two rubber hoses were causing your waste gate rattle? What were the specs for the replacement hard lines?

the 2 lines that run under your engine over from the booster to the bottom of the vacuum canisters where cracked. They crack because they lay on the oil filter housing and get hot and brittle.

WOW I had that EXACT same issue less than a week ago except mine actually gave out. One day last week when I started driving the car felt very weak like there was no boost whatsoever.. So I stepped on it just a tad to see what my gauge red and it would not go over 0psi. I knew it had something to do with the wastegates being completely open so I checked the turbo actuators then followed the lines to the canisters and sure enough one of the canisters on the bottom had the nipple broken. I went up to BMW and got a new one (like $28 bucks and one nut to take it out) but decided to look at all my vacuum lines. I took the engine cover off and followed it all the way to the booster and sure enough it was brittle and cracked. So I said screw it and just went ahead and replaced all the vacuum lines with the stock ones I wish I would have seen your set up before I did that... Oh well.. I dont plan on selling the car anytime soon
