Rod bearing replacement

Hey guys,

I need rod bearings replaced on my 2007 n51 sulev. Also, I will most likely need crankshaft grinded. The mechanic told me it would cost around 500$ to get the crank grinded. Is that a fair price? Isn't it better to buy a new crank? How much does new crank cost? I couldn't find cranks for sale online for some reason.
Also, the guy told me that it would take 38 hours to complete the job. Is this a fair number?

Don't know anything about this stuff but I am aware of this vendor and they do show a price for a cranshaft:

haven't used this vendor, but maybe this gives you some context on the part cost.

Ive used them. They lost my order and it took them over a month to get me a window regulator. Since then Ive paid the extra price to go with Tischer BMW which runs getbmwparts.com.

Got some pics

Guys,

I've got some pics for my spun bearings and they look pretty bad. The mechanic says BMW recommends to change Connecting Rod and in order to do that they will have to open the engine up completely. And subsequently, it is going to cost me extra $$$. And also, he said that rods cannot be bought separately, so I would have to buy a complete set.
Does anybody have any recommendations on that?

just replace with a low mileage used engine.

A rare failure. Traditionally BMW engines go for 250k plus without touching the bottom end. Anything unusual in the engine's history that would have led to the failure?

You might consider a refurb or salvage engine.
