JB4 Map Choice

07' 335i - JB4, DCI, DP's, 7" FMIC, 93 octane fuel. Should I be running Map 2 or 5? I've been running 2 but have seen a few post lately that state 5 is much better with these mods. Switched to 5 today but seemed soft in comparison; really noticed the lack of the turbo spool sound and boost was a few psi less. Do I need to give it time to "learn"?

Need to do three pulls in third for it to learn.

+1, after the pulls use the the fuel gauge for boost, and check how much boost you sustain in the midrange. It might autotune to less than 14.5 psi which is what map 2 is set to. Although you're FBO, with some cold weather (and hopefully you have good gas) you should be all set.

Heck on mine, JB4 and nothing more, boost on fuel Im seeing spikes to 18 sustain 14-15 on map 5. Ive seen it try to hold 17 or so once, as soon as I got to 6k rpms the car fell flat on its face. The Autotune is my favorite though.

Send a message via AIM to Jeff@TopGearSolutions
You should simply log both map 2 and map 5 then we can chime in with more substantial advice.

Map 5 is auto-learn so after time it will adapt appropriately, in theory.

+1, or you can do three third gear pulls if you want it to adapt faster

Back to Map 2 - Did the 3rd gear pulls etc but my car just didn't react well to Map 5. Boost was down 5psi at half throttle, the exhaust tips got very black, also noticed more turbo lag between shifts and the turbo spool that I picked up when I installed the DP's was gone. I always run Shell V-Power so I don't believe the fuel is the issue; bracing for Sandy this weekend so maybe I'll run the logs after it blows over but for now my car is much happier on 2.

I would keep it in map 5 because it takes the guess work out of whether you have enough octane for a given map, therefore keeps it safer. Even if it peaks less than 14.5 psi (which I bought it'll do given your mods and octane level), your car will be happier overall.

No advice is good advice without logs..you can adjust lag fix for quicker spool..but theoretically map 5 will be stronger with full bolt on..GL

Garage List
I was consistently hitting 16psi and tapering down to about 12-13 up top on only 91 gas.

Not sure why you're car is reacting differently but it could be a slew of things. I tried Map 2 and noticed my car wasn't happy like it was on Map 5.

Log, figure out what's wrong and switch to 5. 16psi all day long

As others have mentioned to some logs on both, but before doing map5 let it run on that map for a few days and then do the logs. Then you can switch to map2 and do those logs and you can compare them in terms of boost, etc.

The fuel boost gauge is not accurate enough to differentiate subtle boost changes. The logs will show it very clearly.

Solved my Map 5 let down. For all that said that Map 5 was a stronger running program than Map 2; you are absolutely correct as long as the person doing the programming (me) is smart enough to upload the newest Firmware. I was running the 2/7/2012 version which would only allow 12psi boost. Uploaded the new Firmware and boy what a difference! 30mph in second gear, floor it & it breaks both tires loose and I'm not running run-flats! Boost on fuel is now showing 17-18psi max & maintaining 15-16psi. Thinking that I may need to up the safety from 17psi to 19psi.

Not sure what Terry changed but great job!
