downpipe question

quick quesiton. i have an 08 e90 n54 and i just recently installed vrsf downpipes. the downpipes would make noise and i realized that i needed new gaskets so i ordered AR gaskets and got them installed. thinking everything will be fine i was wrong. right after cold starts, when i give it gas, im assuming its the downpipe but weird clingy noises come out instead of the turbo spool but once the car is warmed up the clingy noises quiet down and the old turbo spool comes back. is this normal?

my car is very loud with the AR dp's when I first start it up and then the noise is greatly reduced after about a minute. your pipes could possibly be hitting eachother or the subframe while cold.

Ive heard that DPs can emphasize wastegate rattle. this might be what your hearing.

otherwise, check for subframe contact, or contact between the DPs

i dont think its my wastegate because ive had that problem before. it sounds like something rubbing whenever i press the gas pedal but ive gotten them checked out and theyre a perfect fit

The wastegate rattle sounds different with catless DPs, however, it sounds more like you have fitment issues: when the DPs are cold, they're rattling against each other, when they warm up, they expand and don't hit.

Hmm sometimes it's the wastegates and when they warm up they expand and the noise goes away too.

The VRSF have a really tight fit so the install needs to be 100% spot on. A common contact point is at the sub frame. Double check there and allow for clearance as metal will expand.

If anything it'd be the opposite. Expanding would limit your clearances.

It sounds like you're describing wastegate rattle. Otherwise, I'd check and make sure the pipes aren't rubbing each other.

Sounds like he is using shitty AR gaskets that are leaking when cold and sealing when they heat up. Switch back to oem
