BMW smoking issues on deceleration VIDEO

Hey all, I recently removed the cats from my car. I have been noticing a large amount of smoke coming from my car since, I took it to the shop and spent 400 dollars on an oil cooler gasket and on the way home still smoke. I have been researching and since it is coming out of both exhaust pipes I am assuming it is a bad PCV valve. BEST CASE SCENARIO. If anyone has seen this before pleaseeee tell me its the PCV valve.

Thanks all.

The video is private. Is there a wheezing sound under the hood?

Please try the video again. I do not head any noises from under the hood, all seems quiet there.

I have the same exact problem. Only smokes on decel. Heard it might have something to do with the turbos going bad not sure if that's true or not. Here's the video. Look at the size of that cloud... it's so frustrating.

Could be oil leaking past turbo seals. I have seen a few 335i's in my area with smoky exhaust on decel.

Others with more experience might know - Valve seals?

I just had every leak fixed by Matt at ZNM Auto in Pompton Lakes. He knows his stuff. He suspects it has to do with the turbos but I'm back at school so have to wait to have it checked. I don't think it has to do with oil leak. But maybe :

I should have added that it could be a PCV issue - but I'm not entirely sure.

You stated that you thought it was PCV because smoke was coming out of both exhaust. I don't think this is entirely true, unless you changed your exhaust system. From seeing the stock system it isn't a separated dual setup. I believe there is a crossover at the rear mufflers and I don't know what happens in the center muffler.

Smoke on decel for me was a clogged rear turbo drain/failure.. Best thing to do is set aside a weekend to take off the DP's and inspect the turbos.. It sounds like a lil pain in the ass, but it's a straight shot at getting an answer on whether or not your turbos are good or bad..

Hopefully you don't see this..

This is what I feared. I'll have my turbos looked at next time I'm back from college to confirm this. Thanks for the input

I actually ran into something very strange. I read a post yesterday and can not for the life of me find it, but putting my car in sport mode made the smoke at least 1/3 as bad as it was... I am trying to find the article and what caused that and will post it.. I hope its the PCV valve and thats it.

Have you checked the VC for any cracks or anything? The PCV is integrated into the factory VC, and you can replace it with a VTT/RB/etc PCV valve, but if the channels in the cover are also clogged than one of those valves will do you no good until you replace the vc.. Just a heads up..

Thanks for the heads up. I have seen that the VC causes this same issue. If the PCV valve doesnt work, Im going to inspect the turbos then go VC route.

UPDATE | So I couldnt take it anymore and tore my car down to get the PCV valve out. The RB valve doesnt come in until tomorrow, but I wanted to get the care ready for the swap. I pulled the old one out and cleaned with very well.. The valve is opening and closing just fine. You can blow through one side, but not the other. I put it back in and took it for a drive and same issue. I know its going to be a turbo seal, I can feel it haha. But one thing that I did notice that is weird, If i put it in sport mode, even coming to a complete stop the smoke is probably 1/3 as bad than if I leave it in D. I find this very interesting seeing that the RPM's either way go back to idle speed, I wonder why one puts out more smoke than the other?

Smoke on decel is usually a bad valve seal. Question, do you have a MHD tune with the exhaust burble mode on? I've read a lot about people messing up their exhaust valve stem seals with this burble mod from MHD...
