Staggering tires on non-staggered 17" wheels -- possible?
I have original 17" non-staggered wheels. Tires need replacing. Can I make the rears wider than the fronts, keeping in mind I have an XI? Thanks!
New poster by the way. Look forward to many more posts! |

You can go with a staggered tire setup on an xi/xdrive as long as the rolling diameter between the front and rear tires are within 3 revs per mile.
As Tom mentioned it will give you more understeer. Essentially the car will want to continue tracking straight when you're going around a corner despite wanting to turn sharper. This will generally only be noticeable if you track the car.
