How to tell if JB4 is For N54 Or N55 - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I emailed terry this

Hey terry i recently acquired a jb4, but the previous owner has used it on his N54 335i, but he informed me that when he went to update the jb4 (G4) the window screen said it was n55. a warning message came up saying are you sure you want to update with n54 update on a n55 engine? Is there anyway i can tell if this control box is for n54 or n55?

as always he one word answered me back with N54.

Im not 100% sure if its for n54 or n55. anyway i can tell?

If it was used on a N54 previously I would assume its for an N54. I wish I could tell you the difference but the only difference I know is the harness. Maybe Mike@n54 knows more.

They are different boards, so if it was used on an N54 before it's an N54 board. Per the interface notes it will give a false warning if the N54 board has really old firmware. So update the firmware and the false warning will go away.

The harness is completely different. ask the owner which harness he had.

from what i have heard, correct me if im wrong, the n55 jb4 dont have boards? its a different setup so its irrelevant
