Battery group size figuring out???

So I have a 2006 e90 white battery with the numbers 61216946334 on it. It looks to me like a 94 group battery but everyone says the replacement battery is actually group 48 besides holding the batteries next to each other how do I figure the proper group size???

I'm told that battery number has been changed and the recommended replacement is 61217586962

So what group size is that battery???

I JUST replaced my factory battery today. Mine was the same as yours, 94 group. I replaced it with a Bosch 94R-730B. So I guess the 94 group is correct size. The Bosch was an EXACT copy of the factory, the CCA was a bit more though. This was NOT the battery that Pep Boys said I should have had. They said I needed a group 48, it is slightly shorter and more narrow battery. I opted for the 94 group battery and it was a direct swap. Registered the battery with my BT Tool and I'm GTG.

Denny thanks for replying.

Not sure why BMW has to make a simple matter of replacing a battery so hard from just getting the battery out of the tangle of cables and all the different bolts to remove to registering the battery to even knowing what to replace it with.

Once I figured out what battery to get, the swap was easy...30 min at most. It starts nice and strong now. It was getting real slow in the cold to start. The BT Tool is very helpful. Checked for any codes while I had it plugged in.

I replaced mine with an AutoZone duralast 48 group battery, I did change the mah rating and battery type via programming cable though. About 2000 miles so far and going well.

I keep my radar detector on voltage readout just to be sure.
