How much does your comprehensive insurance cost?

Hi guys,

I just got a 2nd hand 2009 320d from a guy in car sales.
Just wondering what you guys cost were?

I am thinking to get a commonwealth comprehensive car insurance discounted as my gf works there. $1300. (Cover me and her driving the same vehicle)

I don't know what Sydney premiums are like compared to Adeliade where I live, but I pay $1,400 for a 335i. Mine is through BMW Finance as there arent' that many companies that will insure my car where I live (oddly).

I would think that a 320d would be a bit cheaper than a 335i. I think I get slugged due to having two turbos.

Cost varies hugely depending on age, suburb etc etc. Knowing other's is irrelevant. I generally just go online and get quotes from the major players.

Do also have a good read of the PDSs though, some are more restrictive than others.

For our BMWs (and the modded Renault), GIO offered the best mix of reasonable PDS and price. AAMI were the cheapest, BMW Insurance the best but 40% more expensive. Some do well with Shannon's, and their cover is good, but for us (higher risk suburb in spite of 30 years claim-free) they weren't good value.

Thanks for the above answer

Aami was the cheapest quote i got too at $1200.
With YOUI i choose the vehicle for work purpose and they quotes $6800. CRAZY!
The rest was around $1500 mark.

Wish i could save this money for other uses.

BMW insurance

Hi my last car was a 320d with sports pack..

I was paying 590.00 pa with windscreen replacement...

My new 320d convertible. They try screwing me for $900.00 pa I told them to go jump or get your pencil out and sharpen it.. Which they did I am now paying $720.00 pa.

So my point is ask all the insurers that you get quotes from once you get there first quote. Ask them to do better or you will look elsewhere..

But I would go back to BMW insurance last tell them what they have to beat to win your business and my experience says they will.( that's if you have a good rating and good drivers record)

I also live in Adelaide

LOL my YOUI quote was just under $6K! And then I got a follow up call!!

CBA looked good when I checked but for me were pricey. Worth a look if you can get a discount

Having now worked in the insurance game for a couple of years there are few really important things to know:

Insurance companies spend millions each year rating what they call 'risks'. Essentially they start out with a base premium then everything factors that premium. Everything from the obvious stuff like age, car and driving history down to the not so obvious stuff like your address (some companies rate in as little as 20 house blocks so number 1 and 21 can have a different factor :. a different price), factory options and finance on the vehicle.

Because there are so many things which affect the price it is essential to get as many quotes as possible. Each company has a target risk or target group which they want to insure. Obviously if your driving a modified vehicle with multiple license suspensions and multiple claims it goes without saying your of higher risk than someone who is 40 driving a getz with a perfect history.

Let's face it, every company wants to make a profit so if your in the former group there are less companies willing to 'take you on risk' or insure you. They know this as you can see by the prices they offer.

The trick is finding the company which wants you the most. I'm 20 and I'm driving a 325ci it has a few basic mods but nothing engine wise. Lucky for me i've had no claims and live in a good area so for an agreed value of 28k I pay just under $700 p.a.

On the other hand, when i use to work in sales I did a quote for a 30yr old women driving a Tarago and the Premium was 3k... I almost gave her a heart attack. Having said that when i spoke to her 2 days later the best quote she could get was $2700. It was a suburb close to Redfern

Oh and always read your PDS both before you buy your policy and more importantly, just before you ring to claim. I won't go into this too much as the question was simply relating to price

Hope that helps

How the hell did u get $560 per years?? That is crazy, consider most of my quote were $1500. Which company are you with? Is it comprehensive??

I am 25, live in East Lindfield (North Shore, consider a very safe suburb)
Last time i was fined for speeding was back in 2008.
No finance on the vehicle, i should get a better price right?

Dec540
Thanks, you info is very helpful.
I think the difference is my agreed value for total lost is 45k.

Yes, it is comprehensive insurance with Allianz. I think it is something to do with you age, the fact that you are under 30?!?

Should try to insure under your parents and register yourself as the additional driver.

Thanks for the tips, i tried on Allianz's website (mom as main) adding me as additional driver but it end up the same quote as just me as a driver. $1530

You must be with Allianz for at least 10years right?

So far the cheapest i have got is Aami $1127. Anyone use them? Any good when there is a problem?

Got to love insurance for guys under 25...When i had my Msports 335 i was paying just over 3k, however i had my dads name involved in the policy and me as the driver. If i didn't go through this route i would have been paying just over 7k. For the same amount i insured the 335 for, I am now paying $1800 for the X5. What a difference performance vehicles make. Oh and we as a family/business use NRMA. (Comprehensive with excess of 1k.)

I took a $2000 excess to reduce the premium from $1600 to $750 pa. Generally i don't have accidents, and if it's a small scratch I'd rather pay someone to fix it myself. I'm fussy around repairs, and insurers like AAMI take your car and have their repairers fix it...... No way I'd hand my $130k over to their bargain repairer.

Most young drivers in Ireland and the UK start their insurance like this, but if you do it this way and make a claim, the insurer may investigate and if they find you were the main driver of the car and not your parent, they are entitled to refuse the claim or only part pay it.

lol love the random comments from people in different countries... adds a nice 'global touch' to the question...

i'm paying 1.8k for my 325i... value is high 60s...
gf was paying 3k for the evo, but now reduced to 2.3k as it's the second year with just car insurance... agreed value is 30 or something.
