Lowering the car questions?

Ok so I want to get the car lowered and I have two questions:

1. How low should I go?
2. Will it improve handling?

I currently have M sport suspension but its too bouncy for me and I would like the car to stick to the road (even if it means uncomfortable ride).

I had a Lotus in the past so I'm not bothered about feeling all the bumps on the road.

The answer to 1 is personal choice and the quality of roads in your area (i.e. will you be constantly bottoming out on speed humps and potholes?). The answer to 2 is generally yes, although if your lowered set-up is too stiff, it could impact handling adversely.

BTW a compliant ride and good handling are not mutually exclusive. I have Ohlins coilovers and the ride is silky smooth, but the handling is still a vast improvement on OEM MSport.

Any suggestions as to which will give me the best handling and by how much will the car need be lowered (if at all)?

It really just depends on what you want to spend. Just bc it's low doesn't mean it handles good. (many idiot driving rice just cut their springs)

You can go shocks/struts/springs
Or
Coilovers

Generally Coilovers are better bc they're all one piece and they're fully adjustable. They are generally more expensive as well.
