from I to D

no questions, just got to tell someone, said a tearfull farewell to thunderbird 3 , my 335i of the last 3 years, and a big oh yes!! to a 335d. many things about the I i`ll miss, such as instant low down umf, but have already found the D to not exactly being lacking in that department! it`s an amazing piece of kit, and if it`s half as entertaining and reliable (yes you read that correctly, i had no issues.well nothing big), then it`ll be a blast. anyone thinking of doing the same, dno`t hesitate. found it to be a world apart from the 330d i tested back to back. have fun.

Nice!

What prompted the change? Need for better fuel economy?

Was your i manual? If so, do you miss it?

Haven't driven a 335i to compare, but the 335d has tremendous lowdown grunt.

We've got a 335d in for some work and having just driven it I do love the huge low down urge compared with my 335i, you do pick up on the difference, they are IMO different animals, the 335d just seems soooo effortless while the 335i does everything with again with ease but with a touch of oral excitement thrown in for good measure.

If I needed to do some miles to/from work I'd of once again gone fora 335d but as I do barely 6 miles to/from work during the day the 335i for me was a better bet..

When Re Map'd these 'D's are something else mind you I've yet to sample a re mapped 335i

Of the two things you say you'll miss in the 335i:

1) low down grunt
2) reliability.

These are the most compelling reasons to switch to a 335d and where it excels over the 335i... I'm confused!

Although I loved the 335d, now I've had the 335i I don't think I could go back (unless my circumstances required it).

The thing I would miss most is the sound and the DCT box

good points one and all. might not be so enthusiastic when the snow comes! honestly, never had any rel issues with the I, almost faultless. nicer sound though. as for economy, i`m not as yet a high miler, though that will change shortly, but so far the needle seems to be falling as quickly as before! by the way, it`s a black M sport, easily beasting the SE`s for looks.

I wish my 335i gave me "oral excitement"
