Need Help with ATR? Let me know.

A few people here know me. I have been in the scenes as a professional tuner in the past and now mostly as a hobby. I am sure some of them will come in here and give me a +1 so that you guys can ask questions and know you'll get factual info with ZERO fanboyism behind it (read my posts to see how I share info). Some people will not come in as they are banned on this site lol.

DISCLAIMER - I am not a business nor am I selling anything here. Lets just make some fast Cobb tuned cars!!!!!!!!!!

I have been tuning for a very long time. For people looking for help with ATR and tunes for their car feel free to get in touch with me. One thing that comes along with ATR is the responsibility to do things yourself. Cobb does a great job on getting you the tool but its in your hands to know how to use it or rely on others who have experience.

I was a tester for ATR on this platform and have tuned 100+ cars on other platforms using standalones, open ecu, piggybacks, AP's and other flashtunes, etc.

I am not a business. I am not looking to make a living tuning. I did that in grad school to get me to my professional goals. I wouldn't have been able to get here without people offering me the help I am now offering here.

I will respond in this thread and if you PM me it will probably work better. I have a full time job and this isn't going to be a job so as a hobby please understand this is for fun and I'll respond when I can (but usually I get to things quick as I am a REAL enthusiast who loves to share my passion for cars).

Anyways - I have been busy for the last few months making maps for different mixes of meth, e85, pump, race, etc. I have done my tuning on the street, dyno, and over full private track days. This car is a beast and I'll help you make some maps so yours can be too.

You don't have to be local. I am more than happy to help people tune (e-tune) using logs and discussing how the car is driving. During grad school I spent a few hours a day updating e-tunes for the people helping me get my grad degrees

No problem. I went on 19" replica wheels with DWS tires. When tuning at the track I roll of the line and then shift to second gear so that I can get some solid 2,3, (into) 4 passes. After doing a few passes to make tuning changes I attempted to do some hard passes but my clutch wouldn't allow it. I will be going back for better numbers in the coming weeks.

For what I was doing I was seeing the following -

Full weight 1/3 tank of gas, 19" 27lb rear wheels with 265/30/19 continental DWS all seasons, 2007 335i coupe FBO w/ meth (HFS-4) running OTS Stage 2+ agg.

D/A at track that day was 2200. I live at about sea level so having that 2200 was nothing something I was happy about lol.

1st pass on just OTS stage 2+ was 113.4mph...
after a few changes and tuning for 80/20 meth my last pass short shifting 1st and 2nd to not let the clutch completely slip (it was just straight shooting to 7k rpms) I was doing 117.6. The map I used on my final pass was not even close to being finished. I have a TON of room left for gains. I was just setting it up to be my daily driving map for work and highway "fun".

DIY for some basic stuff?

I think that would help most a lot. Especially first time tuners with Cobb.

Its a bit much to do write a DIY. Tuning is a science. You start with one table and move to others observing changes and making sure the car stays happy. All cars run on the same principles but getting a car dialed in is trial and error in the beginning and as you learn you eliminate the error. Little by little you make changes until you see signs that you are coming close to the point where gains are negligible and reliability / consistency is getting harder to sustain. I tune to the point where a car will always be reliable and consistent and if the customer / person I am helping wants more there is always a little room left before tq stops increasing.

Perfect timing for me - I'm going to the drag strip this Friday with some locals. I'll be taking ATR with me and getting as much info as I can. Granted, I already have a custom tune, but it will be nice to pick through a real world run.

I posted up another thread, but i wanted to clarify since you would know.

Can someone using ATR share maps with another ATR user or is it only the Pro dealer who can share maps?

Boost control works as it should. We set load targets. We set boost ceilings. The car will reference tables and then use the minimum amount of boost needed at all points to hit the requested load at that RPM.

It may sound lame but the first thing I'm going to do it lower the shift ceiling for my automatic. I don't need the extra rpm range in Stage 1+ aggressive.

Just installed ATR. Kind of overwhelming. What are some of the basic things that can be tweaked for meth.

I'm assuming it's not as easy as just lowering the boost taper?

Edit: Just found the "help" pdf. Time to do some light reading ;D

I'll pick your brain!

Did you have boost oscillation issues on the OTS maps? If so, what was/is your workflow to tune out the oscillations? Which of the various WGDC tables influence this behavior the most?

Do you find bmw's load target tuning to be a help or hindrance compared to say, tuning a 4g63 evo or ej257 subie?

Looks like we're still constrained to a 34% STFT ceiling with the full release of ATR..? So what is the max e85 mixture you've tuned for without popping cel's?

Can you post a log file of a custom map you've made for meth/e85/etc? Can you share such a map with the community?

Do you know of 'Airboy'?
