Don't Go to motorcepts !

I'd love to know honestly where is the best Independent shop to work on BMW's. Everywhere I go I get bad results. Motorcepts was by far the worst I've been to. Earlier this year I brought my 335i in for a water pump replacement since then i've had a small coolant leak and never realized. I later went for a pulley replacement and my radiator suddenly "died" right after I got that done. I called and complained and was told "It probably went bad its a 335" What kinda bullshit is that? I Then had to buy the radiator that was broken by them and pay to have it put on. The car was 3 years old how did the radiator "die" like. Around the same time my father was having vanos problems with his 540 and brought it there for repairs. He was then charged 1700 and the car was still having timing issues so Leo told him replace the engine. He then let them do a motor swap and charged 3100 and the engine wasn't even running properly the SES light is still on. This engine smokes already and was only in the car about 8 months. I'm very disappointed in their work and wasn't going to post this because I use to consider these guys friends but Honestly after they've been dodging his calls for the past month I wouldn't recommend anyone go there.

Tari,

I am not going to argue whatever you want to say about your 335i. It's ok. I can do all the explaining but it's useless. When this sort of dispute happens, it's never ending. But I could say one thing: WE NEVER SAID "It probably went bad its a 335." We treat you as a loyal customer and always treated you with respect and courtesy. Your radiator went bad. We had to replace it for you. If you caught a flat while pumping gas, I don't believe the gas station caused a flat while u were pumping gas.

Your father did not pay $1700. $1700 for what though? You didnt even show an itemized receipt of the work. Just spitting out numbers? Come on now Tari. We did swap the motor for the 540i. Your father took the car and it drove fine. He decided to for whatever reason try to work on it himself and then send it to another shop to have them work on it and then bring it back to us. As a courtesy, we actually lost money on the job by fixing it for you. As we told your father, there is a 90-day warranty for the engine. And bringing it to different places, we can't really warranty the work but we still did it for him.

We have a SIGNED documentation from your father stating after OUR COURTESY repair, Motorcepts is no longer responsible for this matter due to the fact that: a) it's been way passed the warranty period; b) we already bend over backwards (as we do for all our customers) to try to rectify the problem and we did!

Now, a few months passed again and somehow, the car was once again worked at a different shop and another problem arised. Your father then calls and only asks to speak to Leo and no one else. Not me nor Fred. He just keeps saying it's urgent and Leo needs to talk to him ASAP when Leo gets in. We relayed the message as soon as Leo got into the shop. Now here's the problem. We did EXACTLY what your father said. When Leo got in, we relayed the message to him. We all have family and there are family issues we all have to take care of. Your father does not want to talk to us. I'm sorry Tari, I cannot help your father at all if he doesn't want to talk.

After Leo called your father back, we found out that your father jumped to many different shops regarding his car. For some reason, your father only comes back to us when others have made the ar worse and try to have us repair it. We repaired the car in the first place and you should've came back to us in the first place. Now there's something wrong again and AS ANOTHER COURTESY we will try to negotiate a deal with your father. Since he bounced to many different shops, we no longer want to deal with other shop's mess and try to fix it. Now remind you, your father already have a signed documentation that Motorcepts is no longer responsible for this repair since the car was previously repaired elsewhere and as a courtesy we still repaired the car. Plus the car was also out of the warranty period!

Leo told your father to ask how much the repairs will be and as a one last time, we will negotiate the deal. However Tari, I am sorry to inform you that our relationship and negotiation will end here. There will be no financial or mechanical help to your father anymore. We had been way to nice from the beginning to repair other people's mess AFTER the warranty period. That was mistake #1. If we ended it at that, this thread and problem would have never arised. Now after you post this thread, you knew this would happen. There will be no more help and we will NOT try to negotiate a deal with your father.

Happy Thanksgiving

John

Is your car still under factory warranty? If so why didn't you take it into the dealer and have them fix it under warranty?

I see I'm not the only one saying this. So I'm clearly not lying. I"m not replying to that long list of lies John typed because your the one that said the "its a 335" bs. I honestly don't care If this place doesn't want my business. Just want everyone to know what will happen if they bring their cars there.

Sorry we can't make everyone happy. Not sure how we F'ed up ur paint job. We have a partnership with the body shop. We can't paint inside motorcepts. Paint jobs cannot come out perfect with mechanical and paint at the same location.

kids will always be kids, you buying your car for 2 years doesn't mean the car is 2 years old Tari, you know you bought it used.

Motorcepts or any forum sponsor is typically accommodating, they are great guys, never ad an issue.

Hope everything works out for you, but I don't recommend any sponsors on the board assisting you, since as Motorcepts stated, you guys bring the car to other indys, have them screw it up and blame others for your own mistake.

All of the indys I have ever been to since I have owned vehicles have never really produced a perfect outcome like OEM dealerships have. There was always something that was never quite right. To be fair I have no experience with this indy. I can say that delaerships cost more but never disappoint in final outcome. Just spend the extra money and go to a reputable BMW dealership and stick with them until they solve whatever issue you have . It is never worth the small amount of money you will save at an indy in leo of paying to get it done correctly at factory specs, period.

WELL since it sounds like you're looking for a NEW shop, here are some I'd recommend in the area:
  1. Camber-Toe (Lynbrook, NY)
  2. AutoCouture Motoring (Fair Lawn, NJ)
  3. Rennsport Motorworks (Hackensack, NJ)
  4. Rogue Engineering (Ho ho kus, NJ)
  5. Bimmer Clinic (Elizabeth, NJ)
  6. VAC Motorsports (Philadelphia, PA)

Out of all of these, VAC Motorsports is probably the best shop. They are BMW specialist that focus on BMW race projects, but also repairs & custom jobs (Google them, they're globally recognized for some of their race builds). While they're not very close & it might be a little pricey compared to some other indys, I can promise that the mindset of the shop is do it right the 1st time. Chances are when I need to get my intake valves cleaned, that I'll be making an appointment at VAC.

What are you saying Gary I only brought my car there NO WHERE ELSE. I had no coolant problems before my pulley was replaced. Also my NEW radiator is leaking and I know the car was used that doesn't mean the radiator is just going to suddenly have a small hole around the same area the pulley is. Anything else you'd like to know ? I understand their your friends so you wanna defend them but I gain nothing from trying to smear their name since I once considered them friends too.

But no need to spam the forums to bad-mouth people.

I'm not sure how the op simply stating a few bad experiences with them is spamming. He's looking out for other forum members.
