And So The Cold Sets In
Hi All,
Does anyone have problems with putting their air con on when they have the temperature set at MAX (28 Degrees). With the mornings getting colder it seems to take a while for the heater matrix to warm up so though this morning I would try the Aircon but I just get cold air, plus the standard heater takes ages to warm up. Anyone else experienced this? I have the climate control version as pictured ![]() Thanks |

No problems with my heater heating up as per the norm; I do however notice when the fan speed is at max or close to max, I can actually hear the fan motor in the background... need to get it looked into I'm sure nothing to worry about as just had a full vehicle check by bmw lol.
Have you serviced your air con in recent times?

Just set the temp you want, put it on auto with the aircon on. The car will sort the rest. Putting the fan up to max actually makes it heat up slower as your blowing all the heat out of the matrix before its built up. Once the matrix is hot enough, the car will bump the fan speed and direction as required.

I'm not sure I understand the question/problem?
Are you saying that once up to temperature with the heat setting at MAX the climate control still blows cold with the air con on? So, if you switch it off it's warm?

The heater can only heat up when there is heat building up in the engine, so a lot will depend on the efficiency of the engine warm up phase. Is the engine heating correctly, thermostat OK?
With colder ambient temperatures, even if setting the AC to say 20C, there won't be instant heat and may take several miles to get decent heat flow. Time to get heat will also be influenced by how hard the engine has to work while warming up. HighlandPete |

Aircon isn't a magic button that allows a car with a cold engine to produce heat.
It will assist in getting the engine up to temperature marginally quicker than by running without it (by placing a greater load on the engine, hence it will have to work harder, therefore heat up quicker) but the heat itself comes from the engine being up to temperature.

The engine coolant needs to be warm to feed warm air into the cabin.

Pop your air recirc on so that you are constantly warming the air in the cabin, not the colder air outside - that will help. But beware that this could make your windows steam over though... |
