Has anyone wrapped their car here?

Was tempted before but never went ahead. But recently had the itch again and been looking through but now I've found stuff like plastidip?

Seems quite mad. Costs slightly less and easy to peel?

If you pay someone to do these for you your looking at $2000+ in wrapping services and for plastidip maybe around $500+ if you can find a shop that does plastidip services.

But if you do this yourself, wrapping will cost around $300+ for the vinyl and about 24 hours of your time compared to plastidip you'll be looking at $150+ for the plastidip and 8 hours of your time.

I'm basing this that you already have the tools required to do these as a DIY, if not then you'll be spending more money for tools.

Doing a bit of googling, I found this: http://dipyourcar.tel - a kit to plastidip your car yourself.

I wonder how 5-6 coats would cope with every day grit/stones from the roads and is if it's washable?


I've just found a facebook page for a company that does this - so will post the above questions to them.

I think the advantage this has over vinyl wrapping is the fact that it would be much easier to fix any blemishes - by simply peeling the section off and re-spraying it.

Either way I don't think I would DIY - just don't trust myself
At the moment I'm thinking about plastidip if I can find someone here in the UK who can do it without charging a bucket load of money.

The general thing about vinyl is that it's very expensive?

Vinyl withstands the abuse of the British Weather/ stone chips much more than dipping. Had Silverstone Paint plasticdip my Focus ST fog trims and it looked like shit after 2 months. Although i commute 2000 miles a month so to be expected.

Just town driving 40miles 5 times a week, so maybe I get away from chips?

I had my car wrapped recently and didnt pay anywhere near £2k.

There are so many companies out there offering wrapping services, prices have dropped considerably

I have used both vinyl and plasti dip . It's not easy as it looks to apply dude.

Both good products but plasti dip is easier to use. If you know how to paint cars.

And some of the plasti dip colours you can't get in the uk. I called up plasti dip a while ago. It could have changed by now who knows

I think I'm swaying towards vinyl now. Just don't want it to look crap and cheap out on it.

wrapping it is all good. Or you could pay for a proper detail to really bring out the colour of the paint.
