Hey guys. It's been a while since I've last been on this forum... I still have my e92 328xi with all its goodies and I still love it to pieces. Not much to update on it unfortunately, other than the x-brace I installed a few months ago. I have a 3 stage intake manifold sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. I might actually get around to do that since I have about a month off for winter break.

Tried to install the x-brace in the garage, but the torx bolts would not budge!! Ended up twisting and ruining a torx bit trying to undo them..

After installing the x-brace, I did notice that the back end of the car felt quite a bit more rigid and it feels more rigid going around corners. Definitely a worthwhile mod.

Now.. I, like many other 328 owners, have been waiting for someone to come out with a supercharger kit.. I eventually got bored waiting and began looking for something else to satisfy my addiction to modding.... And my addiction to superchargers.......... And inline 6 engines.....

So about a year ago, I found a 1998 2 door Jeep Cherokee that was for sale locally and slowly began modifying it with the intention of going to Rausch Creek off-road park with it as often as possible. As many of us probably already know, it is incredibly difficult to keep is simple like that. One thing led to another and now I have this beast of a Cherokee that sits at right about the perfect balance between a street Jeep and a trail rig.

Now. About that supercharger... A company based out of Australia called Sprintex developed a non-intercooled twin-screw supercharger kit for the Cherokee. When it was brought over to America, there were some headaches with tuning it. The piggyback it came with didn't work properly and a good solution to tuning it hasn't really materialized. My dad and I, being the gearheads that we are, did our thing and installed a highly modified Sprintex kit onto my Cherokee with many extras and used a custom Split Second piggyback to control the fueling (using a 7th injector which sends fuel through the supercharger) and the timing and it also has a MAP clamp. The MAP is plumbed to boost (clamped so voltage stays within spec) and the Jeep ECU instantly snaps into open loop once it hits boost and I can add as much fuel as I want.

It just so happens that the Jeep 4.0 inline 6 and the BMW n52 both use MAP sensors... I might be one step closer to having a supercharged n52. Now all I have to do is wait for my extended warranty to run out and try and get a hardware kit from someone assuming there isn't a complete kit out by that time.....

I felt like sharing what I've been up to over this past year and I have decided mirror my Jeep's build log on here. So, without further ado... I present Project: Keepin' it clean!!! I will try to keep it update as best as I can.

In other news, I think a JCR front bumper (maybe rear too] is in my near future with a integrated hitch, foglights, and d-rings. :euro: Probably going to lose my bullbar though if I get new bumpers.. [decided against it. Keeping the stock bumpers and the brush guard (love that thing)]

And I might be doing something special with the front blinkers soon too... :shifty::whistling2:

Tomorrow I gotta get some new bolts for the belt tensioner that don't stick out as far as the stock ones, wire in the AEM F/IC 6, wire in the boost gauge, wire in the dual temp gauge (for measuring air temp pre and post S/C), finish my projector retrofit, install and wire my HID fog lights, reinstall my Hellas, paint some stuff, reassemble my front end, and put the bullbar back on, retrofit in the overhead console, and some other mods that I'm forgetting at the moment.

Then all I have to do is download the AEM tuning software, put a basic tune on it, drive on the street and see how it feels and maybe go into boost, and then get it dyno tuned. :thumbup:

I'll take a video of it running and driving at some point and post it here. :euro:

Here's what I've been up to on this rainy day.


Couldn't finish wiring up the fogs because everything was wet and it was drizzling... So I decided to work on another project.

Now I can replace the Rough Country trackbar since it has some lateral play in the joint that mounts to the frame which I'm not too keen on. Who knows. Maybe the RE one will make my XJ track better and have better road manners. If all else fails, at least it strengthens the front frame rails.


Oh yeah. The Spectre cowl induction kit came too. Piping was smaller than I expected... Might be a problem with my supercharger.

Here are some random pics of my current lighting setup. Still have to put the bulbar and 100w hellas back on. Those projectors with the 55w ballasts are BRIGHT!!!!! Drove at night with them the other day and I honestly think they're brighter than the projectors on my other car. Lol.




I need to build a rectifier to power the LED light that I put in the blinker housing because the wires going to this bulb switch polarity depending on whether the running lights are on or not. Right now, I only have blinkers when the running lights are on. :cursing:

Just skip the matte paints and get the gloss ones!

If I can do this in my back yard and still get decent results, then anyone can.

Total cost for painting the hood: Less than $10 with tax. :guns:

Then I took the rubber elbow off in the Wawa parking lot to see if running an open throttle body would lower my IATs. It didn't. They actually went up. :huh:

When my dad an I got back home from Wawa, we were still feeling a little bit redneck from painting the hood in the back yard (with spray paint) and we did this... I dunno. The paint fumes must have gotten to us or something.

After we put this on, I couldn't stop laughing. Then I got in the driver's seat and burst out laughing again! :laughing: Good thing we went on a very short drive avoiding main roads.

There was a bug flying in front of the pipe when I started it... I think my Cherokee was a tad hungry and went NOM NOM NOM on the bug...








I reckon that the bubble wrap heat deflective barrier added at least 70 hp. :grin:

In all seriousness though, this was the most effective at lowering IATs since it was acting as a "ram-air" intake. Maybe a snorkel isn't such a bad idea after all... If I do get a snorkel, I'll probably rattle can it red (using my newly acquired jedi spray painting skills). So... ARB snorkel or Chinese knock-off? Lol.






Keep in mind, this hood is just a TEST hood. I'll remake it eventually and make it look MUCH better. But this will get me through in the meantime.

Word to the wise. NEVER use Valspar latex based enamel brush-on paint as it will peel and look like this. :cursing: I now swear by Rustoleum black oil based brush-on paint. :boxing:

Had to touch-up the edges of my (junkyard) hood. Kinda went overboard with the paint protection but.... THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OVERKILL!!!!! :guns:

Didn't get much done today, but I did modify the radio adapter cable so the amp will just plug right into the radio. Here is my pseudo-pro attempt at making a wiring harness.

Got some new wire to replace all the stuff that I cut up. (PO had the Jeep pre-wired for an amp). Little piece of advice for those rubber isolator things. Lick the insulation on the wire. Makes it SOO much easier. :tt2:


I was going to grab ground for the amp at one of the seat belt bolts, but that idea kinda went topsy turvy after I stripped the second torx bolt. :cursing:

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Took my valve cover off to check the rockers and make sure that non were loose or flopping around. Made sure they were torqued to spec. And then put the valve cover back on. :shifty:

Snapped a valve cover bolt in the process of putting the cover back on.. Good thing I had a bolt that was the right size and thread pitch to use until I get a new one from either the junkyard or the stealership. :hammer:

Thanks!! I'm really liking these tires (for street use). I haven't been able to test them of road yet, but I think they'll perform great.


That doesn't mean I won't take it off road though. :devil2: Not sure when I'll be able to go back to Rausch Creek, but I'm excited about going there again. AND MY COLLEGE IS AN HOUR CLOSER!!!!!!!!!!!! (moving to college this weekend, hence mad dash to get Jeep ready. Lol.)


Sorry for the lack of updates. I honestly didn't know anyone had posted on this thread (didn't get any notification on my user cp). LOL.

Anyway... I did do some update worthy stuff to the Jeep. Lol.

Finally ironed out the last few kinks with my supercharger install (the little things that bug you when you modify an engine with FULL bolt-ons. lol). Jeep is running EXCELLENT!!! I have to do some more mpg testing (especially on the freeway), but my overhead is showing a pretty consistent 11.5ish mpg for mostly city driving with a small amount of highway driving. Much better than the 9.5mpg I was averaging before the supercharger (and overhead console). LOL.

My dad and I made some progress on our hitch-mounted snow plow idea... Kinda isn't working out too well (started twisting the 3/8" steel cross bar that the plow came with [the one we reinforced and had welded to the ball hitch]), so we had to come up with a mount to attach the cross bar thingy to the front hitch in a somewhat detachable manner. (still working on that one. should have a WAD [wood aided design] prototype made up soonish :euro

I HAS TRUCK-LITE LED HEADLIGHTS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! (what ORFXJ is running) :w00t:

The fact that I was able to get them for a steal probably helped a little bit too. Lol. (my dad is great at finding good deals on things).

All I have to say is "WOW!!!". Honestly, I'm in love with them! I actually enjoy driving my Cherokee at night now!!! I kinda want to add more LED lights in the future... :whistling2:

Went to Rauch Creek with my dad last weekend and had a blast!! We went on pretty much every green trail. Gunna start knocking out the blue-greens and blues next time I go. I flog on it EVERY single day! :devil2: On these cold days (40-45 degrees) I'm hitting 7psi (8psi at the top of 2nd gear) with the stock pulley that the Sprintex ships with and it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys! I can only imagine what it will be like after I put the smaller pulley I have on it... :naughty:

The install was incredibly easy. There was only one bolt between the headers and block that was a pain to get to. Other than that one bolt, it was surprisingly easy. Lol. My dad and I knocked the install out in 2 days with most of the time spent running around for parts and trying to escape the summer heat. We probably had less than 8-10 hours of actual wrench time into the install.


My 4.0 is about as modded as it can possibly be without doing a full ground-up build on it (which I am planing on doing in the future (4-5 years from now)). I plan on keeping this Cherokee for a long LONG time.

As much as I hate Hondas, they make great seats! Lol. These are extremely comfortable and supportive and I think they are acutually a little bit softer than the OEM XJ seats. :rockon:
Had to remove more of the OEM Honda slider to get the driver's seat to sit lower. Turns out that the last piece of the slider was held on with 8 rivets. PER SLIDER!!! So, 16 rivets total... Those were fun to drill out. :kick: Now I just have to do the same thing to the passenger seat eventually... :nuke:

And my dad recovered the center console lid. Came out great!!



















Finally washed all the mud off my Jeep. Looks like a mallcrawler now.. :sad: (yes. my dad sprayed the tires with WD40...)

Haha. Good one.

We can't justify the 4k that would cost. It's safer to have open diffs with this power level. And the d30 will hold up just fine since the only time 4wd is engaged is when I'm driving on snow or mud or off-roading where there is a lot of slip.
And I have yet to find myself needing lockers off-road. Putting my foot down has always worked to get me out of a jam.

D30s? The d30 is in the front. It has a Chrysler 8.25 in the rear which is about as strong as a d44.

Rausch Creek is extremely fun! I am literally addicted to going there. Lol. I've done every green so far and I'm going to start knocking out the blues next time I go (hopefully I will have the bumpstops sorted out by then...)

I couldn't find the bag of diodes that I had, so I found the circuit board out of an old garage door opener that I took apart several years ago. After we climbed out of J and Crawl Daddy....

The two guys we ended up wheeling with. The jeep in the middle tore its brake lines out trying to get out of Crawl Daddy and was the only Jeep with a winch that worked (i don't have one and the one on the other black jeep had the drum spinning on the rope)...


My dad's jeep ended up not getting stuck because he lagged behind trying to fix a swaybar link (pin popped out and link came off of bushing). Yes, my dad and I were wheeling with our swaybars connected and tires at street pressure (30psi). It was WAY too cold to disconnect them and air down. :cursing:


My dad didn't like how it felt driving down the road on the way home without the swaybar properly connected, so this was the fix I came up with in a gas station parking lot..


Gassing up at our local Shell station.


Giving the jeeps a well-deserved bath.


Low washer fluid. Lol. :laughing:


This was definitely a day to remember... In retrospect, getting stuck on the trail and trying to drive out for 3 hours was almost funish. Absolutely one of those "you only live once" moments. Lol.

All in all, my Jeep performed well enough. It came through for me when I really needed it and managed to power out of Crawl Daddy and J without a winch or strap. What did I learn from this trip? Well, first off don't follow someone who says "I have no idea where I'm going" in the parking lot... Unless you want to go on a bit of an adventure. Lol. :laughing:
Second; a front e-locker and chromoly shafts, and a helical LSD in the rear are looking like an extremely necessary mod. Third, front and rear winches. I have it pretty much figured out in my head how I want to mount them, hide them, and keep my stock bumpers (I don't like any of the aftermarket stuff and I like the way my jeep looks as it sits). Now all I gotta do is learn how to weld and find a bunch of time to do it.... :blink: :hammer:

I have several more videos, but this is the only one I've gotten around to editing... Still learning how to use the video editing software. Lol. :cursing: I wish I had gotten a video of me getting off of Crawl Daddy and J because it was pretty much pedal-to-the-metal the entire way up lol, but that was honestly the last thing on my mind. And I can't thank Melissa and Kyle (rausch creek staff) enough for their help. They were super nice and I probably wouldn't have gotten off of J without Kyle's expert help. I'm definitely taking a "off-roading 101" course with him in the spring/summer. :cheers:

To install the ATI balancer and and a smaller supercharger pulley for MOAR boost...

Old wiring ripped out... I later found that a Daystar switch had developed an internal short which was the reason why my fogs and 100w HF lights stopped working... Oh well. I needed to redo my wiring better this time using split loom and better wire anyway. Piece of advice. Buy switches from OTRATTW instead because they use LEDs to light up their switches. (Daystar uses incandescent bulbs that can short Vout to ground).


The new switches. My dad ordered a bunch of switches and ended up buying some SPST ones that he has no use for, so I took those with the intent of putting green LEDs in them (mine came with red ones).


LED bar mounted. I must've measured at least 5 times... :dunno: Looks like it's only 1/64" off center. :thumbup:


Used 4 pin trailer connectors to make the bullbar and bumper easier to remove. (wires are doubled up and each light has its own connector)

Just headlights and fogs.


All on. Those 100w HF lights look kinda silly and don't provide any more light, so I'm probably going to read this pirate thread and convert them to LED. Might do something similar to the fogs too.

Did some driveway wheeling. Front swaybar was connected. Looks like my extended extended rear bumpstops need to be extended some more.... Or I need to start working on my idea to put a set of front flares on the rear. Already have a set of flares and brackets sitting in the garage. Just need to get a pair of front bumper endcaps.












Went out to test a modified version of the RAD shifter that my dad and I have been working on.. (more pics and vids to come soon) Of course it decides to snow. Lol. Aaaannnddd the MSD decided to take a dump..... No power steering or brakes is.. Interesting.

Here's a little something my dad and I are working on. Gear position indicator and a modified RAD shifter. This video is just showing the gear position indicator with the transmission in "auto mode". My GoPro didn't capture the part when I shifted it in "manual mode"... :brickwall: I'll make a new vid of "manual mode" later. :beta1:

Merging onto the freeway. Manually shifting at 5000 rpm. 32x11.5 tires, stock 3.55 gears, massive exhaust leak, almost full tank of gas, maybe a slight amount of belt slip. I've been meaning to tighten that belt for like a week and a half.. Lmao. This is why I hate putting on a new belt. They ALWAYS stretch and take a while to get all stretched out and finally hold a constant tension... Imma go tighten it in a little bit. Lol. :thumbup1:

Tightened my belt. So much easier to do with a ratchet (instead of a ratcheting wrench) and with the e-fan out of the way.


Yupp... That's a low enough tension to cause belt slip. :

Snagged some horns while I was at the junkyard last weekend..


My plan is to put them where they are in this pic (but a little higher up and behind the grille) with the trumpets pointing forward. And then wire them straight to the battery using a relay and trigger them with the stock horns. (yes. i like to use my horn a lot...)


I've been having some ignition problems for a while now (ever since I put the cheaper tune-up kit and MSD on)... So.. Tune-up kit from Performance Distributors is going to replace the other stuff. It that cures it, I'll probably try plugging the MSD back in.

So I'm off to do that and try to tighten the johnny joints on my control arms so I can get rid of my death wobble issue...

Aaaaannnndddd fixed.


I was only able to get the driver's side LCA off and tightened as much as I could and greased the living daylights out of it.. Probably couldn't disassemble it because I might have hit it with a hammer a few times.. :whistling2: Gunna attack the pass LCA and the UCAs with the impact when I wake up (couldn't get enough strength/leverage to break the bolt loose...). Hopefully those other three CAs go a little smoother.. :boxing:


Finally have the Jeep all put back together... Took it out for a drive and the death wobble seems to be a little better and the ignition issues seem to be cured (only time will tell for certain).
I was having trouble with this bolt which bolts the UCA to the axle.. Couldn't get it all the way in and then couldn't get it out. Threads may have already been mangled..


Rolled the Jeep out of the garage and put it on a jackstand and took the wheel off to get more access and finally got the bolt out.


So since the bolt's threads were mangled, I ran it through a die and ended up re-threading it to M10x1.25 (i think it was M10x1.5 before)... :brickwall:


Because of that goof I had to re-tap the nut to match.. Which ended with this.... :cursing: The tap was also already mangled before I used it on this nut, so I couldn't get it to thread all the way through the nut. :brickwall:


Sooo... I went to Lowes and got a new grade 8.8 M10x1.5 bolt with washers and a nylock.


All bolted back together. For some reason my pass. UCA was about 4-5 full turns too short.. I have no idea if my UCAs are now different lengths because I didn't even bother touching the other UCA. Lol. And I couldn't get the pass. LCA bolt (at the frame) loose, so I gave up and just greased it. :dunno: Probably just going to get new lower johnny joints since the uppers appear to be tight and the lowers are loose. Lubed all the johnny joints except the driver's UCA... :boat:


Broke this when I opened the hatch and it hit the top of the garage opening... Well.. At least I know how the wiper comes off for when I finally get around to fixing it and making it work. Lol. Another thing to look for the next time I'm in the junkyard. Lmao. ops:


I also cleaned my rims with Liquid Wrench and WD40 while I was taking a break from that bolt. rofl.

These two pics aren't directly related to the Jeep, but are as a result of it and are probably going to end up on a future project assuming that we (CobraMarty and I) can get some hardware for relatively cheap (i think that's the plan.. lol). The box on the left is a O2 sensor modifier and the box on the right is a fuel/timing calibrator. They are both made by Split Second. Managed to get them both for a hundred bucks. WIN! :guns: (iirc, these are off of that e90 that was supercharged, turbocharged, and breathing nitrous. )

Oh yeah... I almost forgot. I also installed a smaller supercharger pulley. Went from a 2.5" pulley to a 2.125" pulley (2 1/2 to a 2 1/8 for those who don't like decimals. :tt2 :headbang:
I now hit 8psi@1/4 throttle, 10psi@1/2, maxes out at 12psi. This was on a 50* night with no manual shifter shenanigans. Not even a hint of detonation. Only running 3* retard (at 6psi. no more retard after that) and 89octane (mid-grade) gas. No belt slip. IATs seem to max out at about 170* before they start to drop (gotta stay in boost longer to see how low they drop. Lmao). So.. To the people who said the SPRINTEX S5-210 was too small for the 4.0 engine.. IN YO FAYCE!!! :smartass:
