Evan, do these alarms need to be activated by a local dealer? Are most dealers open to activating an alarm they didn't sell or install? Thanks.

Yes, activation is required by your local dealership. IMHO, all dealerships should help their customers out and be open to this....however, sadly, I'm sure this will vary from dealership to dealership.

We have available the installation instructions in .pdf form for these kits for those wishing to install themselves. (activation is still required)

Actually that's not correct, it will require activation by the dealer if your car does not have the latest software programming from BMW. If you have the latest program update then your car will recognize the alarm...unfortunately most cars have older software and the dealer does not update them without a reason. Most dealerships will charge between $100-200 and tell you what a horrible ordeal it is to update the car and how much work it is. Tishcer has wonder prices and great customer service...I buy all my parts from them.

You can't tell what software programming you have though, correct?

From what one of our master-technician's says, all alarms require activation through the GT-1 retrofit...no matter the software programming on the vehicle...................I'm just the messenger.

Guys,
go to the DIY section and look for the alarm installation thread.
Lots of info about this.

Just a few notes:
No activation means the alarm partially works.
Some have gone that route.

As for cost, it depends on the dealer.
Last year, Tischer charged me 1 hour of labor to activate it.
But they'll do it.

We have seen other dealers that don't like you to install the components.
and bark at you when you request just activation or charge you to install and activate.

That is correct...I have now installed alarms in two E90 335's...mine required activation by the dealer and the other one did not.

Evan/Jason, if you don't mind me interjecting, I ordered late 7/17/07 (consider it 7/18 for business purposes), according to UPS it shipped 7/18 and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow on 7/24. It basically shipped out immediately and standard UPS ground. It would be 5 days if there wasn't a Sunday involved.

I ordered an alarm and all-weather mats.

So I made an order with you guys for the alarm. Your system didn't have Canada Shipping as an option so I put something along the lines of "I authorize you to charge me the $35 Canadian Shipping as per e90post.com". Well, I received the package today and was charged $86 by UPS in duties/brokerage fees. I reviewed my order and somebody hosed up. Instead of using your WorldShip account with UPS, they just shipped via standard parcel.

Personally, I would have refused the package. But my sister was the one accepting it and paid for it not knowing better. This blows. I could have gotten it cheaper locally...

I'd try calling them to see if they could correct the problem. Have you tried PMs?
