So before the code the came on, my car was saying tighten gas cap, I got the gas filled in NJ (they only have full service there so the gas attendants put gas in). Shortly afterwards the Service engine soon sign came on. I tightened the gas cap now. Its been a week and the sign wont go away.

I called the BMW dealership and they said it should go away in a few days and they get a lot of those codes. Has anyone else had a similar issue? I heard from some forums that it took them over 40 cycles of starting and stopping to get rid of the sign.

Also, if I disconnect the negative battery terminal, will the code clear?

Also, I know this a noob question, but when you tighten your gas cap, it only clicks once right? The car doesn't let you tighten it more than one click?

One click, but you can turn it & click it more than once if you wish. Also clean the sealing surfaces & maybe a LIGHT coating of silicone grease every so often.

Some of us forget that, unlike a picture you hang on the wall and look at, these vehicles actually appreciate a little maintenance every so often.

Go to Autozone or some other parts store that has an ODB II scanner that you can borrow. Hook it up your ODB II port and select "clear codes". If it doesn't come back you are good to go.
