Help pleased: center vents not blowing air?

It's finally hot here and today I noticed my center dashboard vents no longer blow air. I have them both open and the drivers and passenger sides are blowing nice and cool.

The only thing that has changed is I took off the dash trim to paint a month ago. I didn't even take the center vents out. I just removed the trim and inch and unhooked the vents and then snapped them back in with the painted trim.

If anyone has any info on what could be causing this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Michael

Bad stepper motor perhaps.

Is the hot/cold slider all the way to cold?
Try setting the A/C to MAX (my car has that button). It will blow air out of all vents.

Yes slider is all the way cold. When I hit max AC it blows hard out of all vents except the two in the middle of the dash. The side dash vents still work great.

Send a message via AIM to ssmith96
Maybe take the trim off check that theres no blockage? Which I know doesn't make sense at all but can't hurt to check.

This diagram will help you understand the system: double check that vents are open also which i know is silly but it cannot hurt

Here are things you can do to troubleshoot it.

-There are 3 buttons on the left of the climate control which allows you to select where it directs air. Make sure the 'middle' button is 'on' to direct air to the center console. If all are off, the IHKA will automatically optimize where to direct air based on the temperature and stratification(cold/hot dial) you select.
-There's a vent open/close dial. Make sure they're open.
-You can use inpa to see how the flaps are working. Check the operation of the flaps.
-The flaps are driven by stepper motors... stepper motors can actually skip and can be out of position over time. For example, even if the climate control commands the motor to be at certain position, the actual opening can be off by a lot. There's no position feedback for stepper motors unlike servomotors.
--I may be wrong on this one. But I think you can reset the position (flap opening)of the stepper motor as if you are replacing them with a new one. You can perform 'readdress motors' using INPA. When you perform this, you can actually check the flap status...they will go 0-100%. I just did this because i get a weird mixing of air temperature between driverside and passenger side.
-Maybe you can also re-code the IHK module using NCSexpert under expertmode profile. I'd do this as a last resort.

This are all I can think of. I hope this helps.
