Do they make the VW GTI in 4-door guise? Or a 4-dr Golf/Rabbit that could be brought up to GTI spec..?

Or why not just stick to a 335i, highly customizable car, rock solid for upgrades, will get you everything you want..?

They've made a 4dr GTI for several years now...

I believe this is /thread. VERY comfortable (compared to sti/evo). Quieter, more refined, 4 doors, awd, quick (and easy to tune), and certainly more mature. This car seems to fit the bill nicely IMO.

A friend of mine who also owns an M3 told me the day I picked mine up that I will now be seen as a douche bag. Reading this thread makes me understand why. Apparently it's not the driving, it's the attitude.

I have no idea what the OP does but I have two friends that were multimillionaires before they were 25. Both came from humble backgrounds. Right place, right time, right opportunities. If the guy's got a head start on life, more power to him. Anyone that would judge him and speak ill of his situation has done nothing more than expose their own character flaws.

I'm not going to be hauling clients around. It's the company policy though. I am not a salesman.

Worst case I'll be traveling with other co-workers to walk a job site.

The difficulty is that I want something that I can autocross and come 5-6 years down the road turn into a track car.

My dad leased the 02, and bought it out at the end of the lease with 120k miles on it. Car ran well, and was cheaper than other cars. Yes, I did get my first car from my parents. I was able to sell the car because it was the deal that was made. My sisters had the same deal, but they decided to keep their cars. I sold it with the foresight of potential problems and invested into my own car.

As well, OT is generic to bimmerfest. Way to go smart one.

Please explain to me: How did you afford your first car, college, food, shelter? I'm interested.

I don't have my mind set on anything. It says straight in the title, debating.

I don't know where the self-bragging is coming from, but to each their own.

People said buying a Z4M would turn me into a flamboyant hairdresser as well.

I will be an Energy Engineer designing and optimizing HVAC systems. Since everyone now ITT apparently cares about my life I figured I'd let them know.

There really isnt a whole lot out there for turbocharged AWD 4door cars.

STI/WRX
Evo
335xi
GolfR (which ive heard isnt true AWD?)
MS6 (old and not overly well supported. Surely not a track car)

I think youve kind of backed yourself into a spot where you arent going to necessarily find something that is going to fit your bill fully. I still cant say enough about the happiness i gained by going 135i over my STI. I thought the STI was fun when i had it until i sat in and drove the 135i.

I think the 128i would be a really fun STX car with a FSB and some meatier tires on stock wheels. I think you would have a pretty decent setup, but if youre willing to do that, you might as well go with a used Miata on your own dime and pick up a Lexus on your employer's dime.

i wish i was a spoiled kid with parents that bought me cars......

owning an STi as a "company car" is retarded. good luck having anyone taking you seriously.

might as well show up in an SRT4 or a stanced/illest Vee-Dub.....

So much hating here its comical.

Kgolf, keep competing the z4m as its the best way to really appreciate and enjoy the car. The whole point of a daily is to have something comfortable. With that said if it doesn't have to be a beater, get something more refined and luxurious. What's your budget? I really like my Infiniti awd sedan, makes the long commute really enjoyable.

I want to stay around 30k +- a couple thousand depending.

Half of me wants to continue to track the M, and half of me doesn't. Ideally, I have plans in 5-6 years to gut whatever car I have and turn it into a dedicated track car. I don't think I could ever do that to my Z4M for some reason.

It makes me confused to see that most of OT doesn't realize the highest paid jobs coming out of college these days are Engineering Jobs > Business > Science > Arts.

Uhh... ? Does everybody think Engineer-graduates are pulling 20k/year? Their starting salaries ballpark around 60-80k/year. My sister, who works in the Oil Industry, told me about two recently added graduates to their company (who are a couple, ironically) and are bagging $160k/year together. Out of school.

More props to your OP. Wish you made more for your age, in fact.

Chemical Engineers make bank. Not surprised they pull that money.

Thanks you, I'm fairly happy for starting salary.

After much consideration, it doesn't make much sense to have 2 300+ HP cars when you're only going to drive one and the other will stay in the garage.

I'm going to just focus on a Impreza WRX or 328xi. Both can be had for mid 20s. Continue to auto-x and track the car.

I think that's really the best way to go. Usually a "daily drive" car is different from your track car for a reason. Having your summer/weekend car be a track car makes much more sense. For the track you'd want to do things to the STI that would make it miserable to daily drive, and in order to be comfortable on your commute, you might have to forgo things that would benefit you on the track. You should do what the ///M was ostensibly made for!

I know you said you don't need to carry clients or anything, and this might sound dumb, but if coworkers will see your car and ride in it, they will partly form their opinion of you on that car. A 328xi will leave a much better impression than an STI, for anyone seeing or riding in the car. If you give your coworkers a lift, will they appreciate that loud, sporty exhaust as much as you do? Or the smell if you remove the cats for opening up power at the track? A WRX is also a good choice. If you still feel the need for speed on your daily commute, maybe a 5-door mazdaspeed 3 would fit the bill as well?

Whatever you do, I'm sure you'll be happy. Congrats!

Working summer and winters, it's not an impossible feat to pay off the car. Did my dad help me pay for the car upfront? You bet. Is the title in my name now? Yes.

No one is really hating. This is OT, it's almost obligatory to troll.

You all got trolled and took it seriously.

Company policy requires a 4-door.

So, I was considering the thought of buying a '13 Subaru STI or WRX (don't really know which yet) and modding into STU. Sure as hell would be cheaper and easier to be competitive with that car versus my Z4M (RTR, AS, BSP and possible STR), and I don't have to worry about breaking anything on the M where it would cost twice as much. I would track the car as well (probably only once or twice a year). My thought is that the STI has a diff controller already, BBK, more boost...etc. It would be smarter to invest into a car like that rather than buying a WRX and adding this stuff later on.

The M would just be a weekend and summer car for me.

So anyone with valuable opinions please chime in. I was mainly concerned about the dreaded ringland failure. With an autocross car, and short gearing...I fear bouncing the car off the limiter, and blowing the car. I'm no foreign to stiff suspension. Even though I am on stock suspension with my M, it's progressive rates and torsional body ratings are fairly stiff. Probably will be running AST 4200 or similar suspension.

Going to test drive a STI Saturday, I will hop into a WRX as well probably. Mainly looking at the 5-door, I like them. Not looking to purchase until June-Oct of next year. Just thinking ahead.

Would consider a Evo X. But after I add HID headlights the price skyrockets. Not to mention I have to have leather in order to have heated seats....etc. Still considering this as an option as well.

Please and thank you in advance.
I'd test drive the Evo X and STI back to back.

My brother and I had an STI and Evo, respectively, and stock for stock, my Evo VIII out handled his STI on the track - even when he had his modified, I still had the advantage.

I'm sure the X and STI have similar characteristics, tracking usually goes to the X for it's amazing handling and steering. Worth a test drive.

BTW, MPG is hit for both.

That's true, but a lot of posters here forget he's not paying rent/mortgage/etc....when I was an intern over summers in college, I managed to save up enough to drop $10k on aftermarket parts for my Ford...and later sold it, put down $15k for an Evo VIII, which was stickering at $35k when I was in grad school.

Kudos to the OP for managing his finances and getting some sick cars!

You people need to give him a freaking break. He managed his money better than you at his age. Get over it. Im sure your parents never dropped a dime on you either.

OP, STI or EVO would be my choice. If you need something more refined, why not the C250s or similar Benz's? Not terribly expensive.

Right now I'm going to focus on a pure DD car and continue to progress and autox/track my M Coupe. I can't put it on the back burner, it's too fun of a car to leave and forget what it was truly made for.

I'm looking at 328xi's that are a coupe years old (going for around mid/upper 20s now, only to drop)
