Lightbulb How many guys does it take to change a light bulb?

THREE!!!

One to bring the car (me), one to bring the bulbs (Teddy) and one to provide the garage (Mark). All credit to Teddy and Mark for doing the work!!

Teddy of SSDD Motorsport (http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/) has imported new Angel Eye bulbs for the E90/E91/E92/E93, and as a major wholesaler for BMW, believes these are the first in the UK (the Yanks have already got them though!!). The bulb is by Suntex Tuning Parts and is available in Eagle White (the bulbs we were trying), Dak Yellow, Shark Blue, Green Shark or Bull Red... All available from Teddy of course...

Teddy asked if he could try them on my E90 for the purposes of writing a DIY install, taking pictures of the install and showing the finished effect etc... If I liked them, I could buy them for a nice discount...

Unfortunately, changing bulbs in the E90 is not simple. You have to take off the front wheels to access the bulbs!! Its not as simple as accessing them in the engine bay (unless you have a special tool for the drivers side only).

This meant changing the bulbs was a 2 hour effort!!! removing the panelling in the wheel bay and accessing the bulbs by opening their plastic protective housings.

So first, the car was jacked up...

Teddy and Mark began removing the panelling in the wheel bay...

You can see the panelling in this shot...

And finally removed...

Teddy begins removing the OEM Angel Eye bulb...

And the first one is done! Guess which one is the new bulb!!

It was a very fiddly job with all sorts of oriffices explored...

Now for the other side...

Teddy compiling his DIY...

Both are changed!!

Now, the panelling has to be put back...

Surprising how much team effort was involved, just for changing bulbs!!

With panelling all screwed back in to place, my 162's can go back on...

And my E90 is lowered back to terra firma...

The finished effect...

The HIDs will need changing now to match!!!

And with the xenons on...

So, that's how many guys it takes to change a light bulb!!!

Mods to date: Blacklines, Short Shifter, H&R Springs, Eibach Spacers, Suntex Eagle White Angels... If peppernick had his way, I would have ACS bodykit, Eisenmann exhaust and BBS alloys too!!

Nice work Paul.

Looks like a lot of work went into that, especially for Teddy & Mark having you watching over them, as they 'played' with your baby!

All the best.

I'm shocked that you need to remove the front wheels to change the bulbs! I'm guessing the E92 is the same?

Good result though

Looks great but looks like a lot of labour involved, how much is that going to cost as a mod, unless you have a friendly garage/mechanic at disposal!!!!!

Not on the E92, you can access and change the bulb by just removing a cover from the top of the headlight.

Good mod Paul E90 halos look so much better than the crappy reflective ring type we have on our E92s.

I replaced the H8 bulbs with 8500K ones and this gets a half-way-house job done. The angels are still nowhere near as blue/white as those replacements though.

Great job.

They sure did make that install look rather hard. You can just turn the wheel but it's a tight fit and then your left trying to untighten and tighten screws by feel.

You guys would have been better off removing the bumper, pulling out the headlight housing, switching the bulbs then reinstall everything at the rate you got it done.

I too love my PIAA bulbs. The look of the car is changed dramatically at night.

You don't say, Paul!

Carlos- See this- - that's like the colour of the bulb Paul used.

See these colours- - he didn't use any of those coloured bulbs!

I suppose he could have used a different coloured bulb on each side, but that would have been a little on the 'chavvy' side, I think!

Is it the same H8 bulb that runs the DRL's in the coupe?

Not for E92/E93. They won't fit. Typo on box. E92/E93 takes standard H8 bulbs.
