Emission test failure with Cobb flash.

Long story short. Went for the emission test today and my car failed . So if your car is flashed with cobb or any other tune, make sure to flash it back to stock before going in. Also drive it for 100-150 miles to make sure all of the emission systems are ready for testing. My car is only flashed with Stage 1 agressive tune with all cats in place. Looking at the inspection report: the catalytic conventer eff. , evaporative control system, and oxygen sensor systems were not ready. No codes or check engine lights.

I'm not shocked, nor really suprised but I thought a simple stage one would be able to pass the test without any issues; guess not. Flashed the car back to stock, need to put some miles on, and will retest it next week. Did I mention the car is slow as F@k now......

Weird, mine passed just fine with the tune installed.

I only take it off to go to the dealer.

Sounds like a good plan, I would definitely put the cats back on. I'm pretty sure the techs at the testing facilities have good smelling sence...

El Paso, Travis and Williamson County Motorists
In conjunction with the annual safety inspection, all gasoline powered vehicles from 2 through 24 years old which are registered or primarily operated in emissions counties will be subject to one of the following emissions tests.

1995 and older vehicles will receive the Two Speed Idle (TSI) test while 1996 and newer vehicles receive the On-Board Diagnostic (OBDII) test.
Maybe a different issue? Did you try using the AP to clear any codes?

Get the JB V3 downpipe fix and you should be golden...No need to flash back to stock but with Cobb its so easy to switch back, even a Caveman can do it! lol

You are absolutely right. If you flash back to stock and go in, all of the data collected in the o2 sensors, emission systems will be cleared - and thus "Not Ready" results. I drove 49.5 miles and all systems were ready, but I've heard differing results. There is a thread with how to properly "ready" your systems after a battery replacement, flash, etc.

I am pretty sure you can get an emissions check with COBB (no downpipe w/o BMS DP fix) and pass all readiness tests. Can anyone confirm?

I just had my car inspected with Cobb stage 1 and passed. Did you reflash one of the maps shortly before getting it inspected?

No, had the flash for quite a while, two months or more. All I did was read and erase the codes. I'll retest it stock next week.

Here is a $21 tool that will display readiness status of all areas for you. I bought one. Thought it was worth being sure all readiness was set before going through emissions. The BT tool can't check readiness. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details

Also,

Every time you reset ECU or clear DTC codes, ALL of your emissions codes will be reset to INCOMPLETE. That's designed to force an automatic full systems check after a problem is corrected and the DTCs are erased.

So to pass emissions: you should not be deleting DTCs at all.

No need to divorce your wife for an emissions test.

Passed the emission test today without a single issue. Drove the car stock for week, felt slow as f@k but it passed. Flashing the ECU as we speak....

what about cattless dps with cobb?
have heard no CEL errors or other error in dashboard, but havent recieved confirmation, that car would be "OBD-ready" status on inspection?

strange because i think all the 335is are so new that those need OBD-test,and still havent found any confirmation on this.

x 200

I'm pretty sure that was the problem, as COBB does not change anything emissions wise - you'll only get into problems if you change / delete the cats. Same story for any tune, by the way.

I past e test few weeks ago with Stage 1 sport. Car is stock though.

I told them no engine light or error code. They seems still did a sniff on my car, and I passed.

The Cobb stage 2 tune will eliminate and clear the CEL on dash, however, it will not pass a readiness test. If that is a concern to you, you would have to purchase and of course install dp fix (aka o2sim).

I understand no CEL with Cobb and downpipes BUT

INPA also show OBD readiness...Download it for free and set it up on your laptop...Here is a screenshot of the OBD readiness menu
