So I currently have an 03 M3 , its a great car and it's my second e46 m3 that I've owned, Im in the process of selling it and debating if i should get a 335i, a local dealer is selling one for $16,500 black on black e92 coupe 6spd manual, with M3 front,sides,and rear bumper. Overall Clean title and 0 accidents, is this a good buy , I was gonna offer him under $16k for it, but I plan on modding the 335i performance wise. Heres the catch the 335i has 115k miles on it, should I sell the M3 and get the 335i or keep the M3 , my M3 has 84k miles on it.

I wouldn't buy the 335 with 115k.. That is STEEP. Keep searching. You can find an 07-08 perfect 335i with around 60k miles or so for under 20k.

Test drive it and see if you like it. Definitely a better DD

or my other option is i found two 135i's local for $17.5k with both around 80k miles, See I want a 6spd manual that's the thing I won't settle for an auto

I wouldnt get a 335 with that many miles on it. Plus IMO the mods ie the the M3 front, sides, etc. is a dead give away that its been modded. You also run the risk of fuel pump issues.

I would keep the e46 or save up more money for a e92 with lesser miles.

There's always a big risk buying a heavily modified car. Especially a high-tech high mileage car. If you're comfortable working on the car yourself or have access to a good cheap mechanic then it may be a good deal.

Why do you want to switch ? Seems to me that the 335 will probably cost as much if not more in maintenance/repairs, and the e46 m3 is still very, very enjoyable for todays' standards.

If you can fine a clean one under 60k miles for below $20k, then you're probably one hell of a deal hunter...

I don't have an e92 but it looks modded, m exterior but standard sports package steering wheel and shifter, is that how they come/came?

I'd keep looking. Something stock and lower mileage. How about some sort of warrantee? I'm also worried about the "new" BMW maintenance schedule. Back when you paid for service, they wanted the oil changed every 3 to 5k. Now that they have maintenance included, the oil in these turbos can go 15k miles? I don't think so. Maybe I'm wrong (and I'll assume I am) but it worries me.

Completely loaded, 56k miles, clean, and you could negotiate to 19k.

Honestly I would pass on that car.

The only way I would buy a high mileage 335 would be if I personally knew and trusted the previous owner (or if it had a good warranty attached to it). At that mileage you are past the extended warranty for turbos/wastegates and are creeping up on the expiration of the HPFP warranty.

Nothing wrong with buying a car that has been modded, so long as you know it had been properly cared for and maintained. The problem here is that you have no way of knowing that.

And a clean carfax has nothing to do with the car never having been in an accident or having extensive body work -- don't trust what carfax says.

I would never trade an E46 M3 for a 335i. I have an 07 E90 335i

Deff don't do it .....115k is very high and the exterior mods clearly point to the fact that he's modded the engine....tune etc etc etc. I'd say stay away and look for something with lower mileage.

Keep your 2003 M3. They look great. Plus they are probably more reliable than the new one. Why pay for a newer car with more miles on it? You may know the dealer, but you don't know anything about the previous driver... I would keep your old "baby" until she literally dies... 200,000 miles is doable. One of my best female (!) friends has this 1988 325is. With more than 200k on the gauge. So retro. So cool. The cost of keeping yours is most likely less than the depreciation plus maintenance of the newer one. And is the newer one really that much fancier, better, etc.?

In the end, it's about driving experience: road handling, the straight six cylinder engine, the feel. Your 2003 definitely has its charm. Do you really want to trade it in?

I have a weakness for older cars. Maybe that's it. Anyway, my two cents...

This is basically what I did. Had an 03 e46 m3 with 71k and now have an 07 e92 335i 6 speed with 88k. So far it's been great, I miss my m3 though.

I was in a similar predicament as you except my e46 m3 had almost 100k the car ran flawless but costmetically you could tell it was aging so I started searching and eventually I found a 335 which had the interior color I wanted, 6speed and jet black. It was bone stock and the it have only had 1 owner who was also one of the owners of the dealership who traveled every week fom tampa to jacksonville (which explained the high miles) he wanted 15.5k for it with 110k miles but I talked him down to 14k cash(took a lot of persistency) and purchased a warranty for 5yr or 100k for about $1300 and honestly to this day I haven't looked back. Sure its higher mileage but the car was mint..and they way the miles are put on the car and the maintainace has been done plays a big part when its higher mileage. I recently had it appraised at the automall where I work and they offered 13.5k which is pretty good for trading it in considering what i paid. In your case i would suggest you try and research all the background info you can before dismissing but if the car was heavily modified performance wise I would think it twice. personally to me getting my e92 was a huge upgrade and now with the mods I've put on it I def don't miss my e46 but I lucked out that even tho the mileage was high it was bone stock and driven long distances by a 65yr old
