Car wont crank, accessories work, insrument cluster doesnt turn on except air bag

I drive a 2007 335i. I have no idea what is wrong with my car, just drove up to massachussetts from queens ny. Car was driving fine. About 3 weeks ago i got my water pump and thermostat changed and the mechanic shop left the light on in my car, battery died and they jump started it, since then the locked active steering indicator has been on. I know it needs to be reinitialized at bmw but it never was a problem starting and stoping the car. Now after a day being on vacation my car wont start, wont crank. I tried disconnecting the ibs wire, jump starting my car, took the console apart and tried starting the car in nuetral, checked fuses and they are fine. I doubt its the starter because i never had trouble starting the car before, always fired right up. Btw my car has 95k on it. Plz help, anything i can do on the fly? Because tomorrow im going to have to rent a uhaul and dolly and take it back to ny, 4 hr drive.....

Maybe disconnect the battery for a while? Have you had it tested?

Have you tried a jump start on your battery and leave it connected for about 5 min to fully help charge your battery. have the other car on at all times with high revs. Your battery is completely drained sounds like.

Is the steering lock light red or yellow? Red is bad and prob the reason the car won't turn on.

yeah I agree with post above. Could also be steering column. Mine was replaced under a warranty few years ago. My icon would appear in yellow and had to try several times in order to start, I remember now.

I tried jump starting the car strait to my battery in the trunk. Yea for ten minutes revving the car. And yea the steering wheel lock has been on for about 3 weeks and the car has been starting fine no problem. Why would it not allow the car to crank all of a sudden?

You probably need to replace the whole steering column. It will not allow you to start it. Its locked. You must start searching for price on part an labor. Keep us posted and good luck!

Bad idea, people have spent a lot of money after doing this. Use the jump start terminals under the hood.

Ii tried from jumping it from under the hood first. So ive been desperate to fix this. And why would i need to replace the steering column? The wheel lock light came on after the battery was jump started 3 weeks ago. I was reading that the car needs to be hooked up to a bmw computer just to allow the active steering to be reinitialized. Your scaring me with that

From what I've read around here when you jump start the car at the battery the current goes directly through one of the fuse boxes and fries everything it touches.
If that's what really happens then you probably killed a fuse or two and that's why most things won't even light up.
Do a quick search and see if the symptoms match what you're seeing.

Instument cluster and everything else has been working perfectly fine the past 3 weeks. The only thing that has come up was the red steering wheel lock indicator. The instrument cluster lights and car havent turned on since saturday morning. I just tried jumping it from the battery itself last night

Sitting in bmw's parking lot now just spoke to service rep. Car is not responding and bmw cant communicate to my vehicle. Very very weird. They said they want to keep the car and weed out every possible problem as to why its not communicating to the bmw computer. And told me get a rental...

if you took the console apart, check your start button. You probably disconnected something down there? Someone had an issue like this here lately I think
