Power steering problem

The steering wheel is really hard to turn all the way to the end. More so after the car is parked for a while or if I turn the steering wheel end to end, it becomes really hard to turn.

I checked the power steering fuel level and it looks good.
I have also noticed some more pronounced burnt oil smell (more than usual when the engine is hot).

Is the power steering belt driven or exhaust pressure pump type of deal?

2011.
86,200 miles

I think it is the power steering pump.
If I zig zag it becomes really hard to turn. If I do it slowly it works, so it make me think the pump does not put out enough pressure.

Had the same problem recently.
Problem is the pulley driving the belts, the rubber that is glued to the pulley started slipping and separating, making the belt slip under load from the power steering. The burn smell was the rubber burning.
Fix was "Replaced 11-23-8-511-371 vibration damper and 2 belts."

I took the car in today because the coolant temperature kept staying high. Maybe related to the belts being loose. I have no idea. The temp is normally around 186-188 under normal freeway driving condition, but today kept going up and down 186-220.

Subscribing...I have the same issue with my 335 xdrive. No odd sounds or even burning smells...just suddenly much more difficult to turn. The fluid is not low either, nor is it burnt. Just a light brown clear color. No idea what is going on.

Sorry I did not post a follow up on what really happened.
As montr mentioned the vibration damper or pulley was cracked. Not the whole thing, but the rubber in the middle of it.
Because of this the belts had very low tension on them and the pumps were not getting enough spin power.

Cuda it was the TORQUE on the car that broke the pulley and it was the CRANK pulley, once we fitted the Dpipe w the 3" exhaust the car turned into a BEAST and I broke the crank pulley
