Has anyone used DIS v57 & TIS or SSS v32 ?

I went to my local BMW guy and he had what looked like DIS V57, where he could view all the errors on the vehicle and clear them.

Has anyone had any experience with this? What kind of cable would I need with this? Im a bit confused because I see $600 boxes using DIS v57 online and then I see $50 cables using this?

EDIT: Or if anyone can recommend a nice diagnostic tool for PC that would be great as well

Brad

I got DIS57 running

I went to the coding board and read a lot there.
Ended up ordering a k can cable with some disks of ebay for 50 bucks .
You need a laptop running a 32 bit operating system or windows pro
running the virtual xp to get some of the associated coding programs running. You have to be a little bit of a hacker to get it going some knowledge of vm ware or willing to learn it.(vmware simulates xp mode) I couldn't get SSS progman running but its not really necessary or even advisable.
I would try to find some of the disks they say it will run with a simple download if possible.
I also did a little coding with the same setup.

If you have anything other than an 06 you need a Dcan + Kcan cable. This is discussed in detail
in the coding sub board.

do a search = cable on the above sub board

Also those programs require a huge amount of disk space
at least dis57 sss and tis do. I think its 60 gigs for dis57 alone.

ahhhh Ctuna! I shoulda known you tried it! So did you actually get DIS 57 working? Was it worth it? Wait I downloaded "a copy" from the internet but it was noooo where near even a gig... ya think I should just pay the $50 for a china copy? (for all I know it could be the same copy).

I partitioned my laptop so the other side is using Windows XP 32bit and the normal side is windows 7 64 bit. (I used windows xp 32 bit cuz I thought ncsexpert would work better with that OS)

I also purchased a cable off ebay (donno if its one of the good ones cuz I was younger and stupid) so ill have to try it out to see if its good.

So do you think its even worth trying DIS? Also do ya think I did good here for NCS? or any other suggestions?

Thanks guys

Brad

Yes I got DIS57 working

I bought the cable and software from Ebay from some guy in England.
Is it worth it . It seems more worth it than some of the alternatives because
it has a one button diagnosis , it reads all the shadow codes , Its not Vin limited and you can program injectors and stuff like that but I have not had the need to do it. I found out my car had no current problems but it told me some history like the power steering fluid was low at one point and the battery was low at one point . Both these problems I had corrected before I got the setup going . DIS57 is a big file as it SSS and TIS . The other three low level programs aren't that big.
Its pretty slow even on a fast computer and you pretty much have to figure out the navigation yourself no operators manual that I have found.
I tried and tried to get SSS working but couldn't get it past the icom cable required which is a typical problem .
I ended up coding the windows and air conditioner with ncsexpert I think its been a year so I would have to review the details to be accurate .
Are you sure you go the whole copy or just one of those
segmented rar files in which you have to load 100 to get the whole thing.
As far as I can tell if your cable works with ncsexpert it should work with DIS57 but the disks I got do have a test head emulator program to make the cable look like one of the more expensive ones to the car.

If all you are looking for is a program that will show you all the active, past, and shadow faults and something that will allow you to do some simple coding, I would recommend "BavarianTechnic" http://www.bavariantechnic.com/

The program is great if you are doing general maintenance and need to reset condition based services or need to reset an EML light. If you purchase the professional cable it allows you to do some basic coding like if you install a new battery or want to activate/deactivate DRL.

If you are serious about coding, NCS Expert will do just fine (along with a good DCAN KCAN cable.
