You need pics of the hole, and a tape measure to show the length, width and the depth of the hole. As much detail as possible is required, and will put you in a stronger position. Get a quotation from the dealer to carry out the work, and enclose with your claim. Look on your local council's website, there should be a section about potholes, and what is needed. Good luck, you may well need it,but perseverance pays

It's worth a shot, but I think the odds are stacked in their favour. You could win if they didn't know about the pot hole, but if they knew they have a certain amount of time to fix it, and claims within that time won't be entertained.
I'm sure that's what I remember reading a while ago, but don't quote me on it |

At this point you have nothing to loose. The council get claims like this all the time and regularly pay. Just don't let it go and persivere as the wheels of the council turn very s-l-o-w-l-y.

It's the city's responsibility to patch up those pot holes..that's what part of our tax $ goes to so I suppose they would, give it a shot you might get lucky.

Have a look on http://www.potholes.co.uk/ for advice, maybe also http://www.fixmystreet.com/ to see if it had been previously reported to prove negligence.

What was most worrying wasn't the damage to the car. When I hit the pothole me and the wife both looked at each other and said that must've caused some damage but we carried on hopefully about a mile up the road and joined the motorway, as I went onto the slip road I said to her the car feels weird but initially put it down to the amount of water on the road. We crept down the motorway to the next junction. Just as we were coming off it started to feel really bad and make some nasty noises. I pulled up as soon as was convenient and noticed the camber of the rear nearside wheel looked very odd (facing in towards the bottom). The thing was I had my 2 young boys in the back of the car and things could've been so much worse.
Just out of interest, who would be responsible for the road, the county and council or the local district council? |

I burst 2 RFT's in a pothole that had been repaired a number of times.
Council wouldn't pay as they didn't know it needed repairing!! Oddly, the wheels didn't crack or bend - just the tyre got ripped away from the bead. Didn't deflate and I was able to carry on home. Went to proper tyres after that! But I've got tyre insurance on the latest car. Mike |

You need to put something straight widthways across the hole, and place the tape against it to clearly show the depth.
