***Official AR-15 Thread***
I've inherited a S&W M&P AR without the owners manual.
![]() How the f***do you get the bolt open? Does it have to have a magazine in it? I know we got some AR guys here, help a brother out!

First: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=506177
Second: Pull the charging handle back. As you are pulling the charging handle to the rear (without a magazine in), press the bottom of the bolt release. Voila. Summary: Lock the bolt open by pulling the charging handle rearward, pressing on the bottom of the bolt catch, and allowing the bolt to move forward until it engages the bolt catch.
