It's amusing to read about how worried people get when their warranty is up, like somehow their cars are going to completely fail at that point.
Of course there are horror stories on forums but no one I know that have owned BMW's ever had a problem actual parts going out, it was always electrical problems that kept happening and they just got fed up with it and went to another car. So yes, if you maintain it well, your car is in better position to last longer but electrical faults happen regardless of how well you maintain it.

As for those who are jumping on the BMW longetivity bandwagon and saying this proves something are not really thinking like scientists. One data point doesnt really prove anything. This guy has a freaking lift in his house! Obviously it was maintained well. And his mileage seems to be pretty easy-going, so I wouldn't jump to any assumptions regarding how long BMW's usually last.

I do plan on keeping mine for over 150k and will hopefully follow the "Mike Miller" maintenance plan, but am willing to do most of the work myself. Let's hope more people post about their 200k+ mileage reports though!
Okay, I need to respond to this. Earlier in the thread I described my commute. It is not an easy all highway affair. I hammer my car a lot on back roads every day and drive it like a BMW not a Lexus. Second, the lift just makes the maintenance work easier, not better. Third, as mentioned earlier this is my 3rd high mileage BMW, and my 4th high mileage car over all.

BTW good job on keeping and maintaining your car.

I have major respect for you, because I loose steam right around 75000, and from that point forward.

My question to you, is what is next?

Great story OP. Truly inspiring. I have a question about the VANOS solenoids....is this something I should have done at the dealership? Any idea how much it would cost?

I'm at 80k in my 330i

I usually keep my cars 4-5 years. I just traded in my BMW 545i with 106K mile. My E92 335i is going strong so far (knock on wood) I have 67K miles and one year left on warranty. I am planing on keeping it well past 100K hoping to get it to 200K.

The amazing thing is I love my car even more today then when I first bougt it. This because I have done certain cosmetic and performance mods to it that make it that much more special to me.

Have an indy do it for you. I doubt a dealer would even bother. They'd replace the parts rather than clean and swap them.
