Stage 2 135/335is Brand New or e92 M3 used?

Hello, I currently have a 335i Xdrive Coupe, selling it very soon. still has a full year of warranty left or 15k miles. Currently has 35k miles. I am either going to buy a brand new 135 or 335is dual clutch and go stage 2 or i will buy a used e92 M3 certified or from carmax(because of warranty). I have no problems with "voiding" of my warranty so that is not an issue. I just love the torque the 135 and 335 have compared to the M3 but i know the M3 is quicker in the long run.

For stage 2 i would be using:
-Cobb Accessport(already own it)
-Bmw Performance exhaust(already own it)
-Catless downpipes(need to buy and install)
-front mount intercooler(need to buy and install)

For the e92 M3 i would be using:
-AC Schnitzer quad exhaust (if i can afford it) <--- Definitely a must

Thank you for your time and your thoughts on what is the better buy!

IMO..if you can go for 1-2 yr old M3, that would be great.
But an M3 will cost more on insurance and less MPG.

On side note, nothing beats a brand new car...135 or 335. Great MPG and lower insurance premium.

An E9x M3 is superior to any other E9x 335i or is or 135i. This is stock to stock. Even if you spend to modify to turn a E9x 335is into an M3 would take more then just a tune. As it is not all about power with M3.

The M3 has a fantastic high revving race breed engine, performance suspension that is tuned very well by the M folks. Not to mention all this is paired up with a great steering feel and one of the best high tech 7-speed DCT. If you throw the styling enhancements in there for a bonus it makes a great deal.

To get a 335is to that level with a proper oil cooler, LSD, larger intercooler, Tune, catback exhaust system, intake, down pipes, aero bits, high performance suspension from control arms to springs, proper chassis stiffness items. You will be looking at spending a good $7-$10K probably not counting labor. All of this voiding your factory warranty unlike M3 with factory warranty. If you did all of this you still would be lacking M3 specific DCT tranny and its super aggressive shifts.

In other word to create a proper M3 beating 335is on track. You have to end up spending quite a bit of money. Its just better to buy a M3. If you are in love with 335is torque band then go with 1M. It has great tuning potential but comes with lots of M goodies except for M specific DCT tranny.

On the other hand 335is has its own advantage. It shines as a daily driver with good gas mileage. You can tune its power up and not have to rob a bank.

Daily driver = 335is tuned.
Track machine = M3 or 1M.

If you can get the m3, get it but a new 335is would be bad ass aswell. Slap on a Cobb and FMIC and you'll be good

I would go with the M3... I wanted an M3 instead of my 335is but no one had a used one with the options I wanted within a 125 mile radius at the time. I ended up buying a fully loaded 335is and could have gotten a new M3 with a few options.

Torque on the 335 is nice, but if you're planning on hitting the track hard, then my vote would be for the M3. You also get spared from all the HPFP fun.

Personally id get the used m3 hands down, probably smarter to get a new car if the price is similar though. 335i gets better gas mileage and can be much quicker for less money but it'll never be an m3.

unless you'll be tracking the car, I don't really see much of a point in getting an M3. The 335is with a flash and some other mods would be as quick as an M3 in a straight line. But in the corners, an M3 will definitely out-perform the 335is. However, it'll be much easier to push the 335is to the edge, which in my opinion is where the fun happens. Also with the M3 as a daily driver, you should think about the firmer ride, increased gas cost, increased insurance cost, and the possibility of being late due to a flat since the 335is at least has RFTs.

All this said, I'd buy an M3 just because its one of those lifelong dreams of mine that I can more reasonably achieve (compared to owning a Ferrari 458 per say). And I'd have to take the M3 to a track at least once a year. Otherwise, what's the point of 414bhp!

Completely depends on the purpose of the car, Daily vs. weekend warrior, etc.

If I had the money, I would go M3. You get some prestige with the M and it's a lot more "car"

The 335 is definitely nice, but will still be considered the "poor" man's M3

Also gotta factor in insurance, length of ownership, etc.
