Lease to Auction

Is it a red flag if a carfax report is showing a 1-owner leased 2010 335 going to auction and being bought by a ma and pop dealer around 50k miles? I would think bmw would only want to dump their car after the lease expired if they see an issue. I don't know much about it but maybe all leased cars go to auction once the lease expires.

Warranty is up at 50k. They want to dump it on the open market rather than CPO. That is all you should need to know

Very common thing to do. Should not be an issue. If it was a Lemon'ed car it would show as BMW would be selling elsewhere. For example in CA if you lemon the car you can't resell it in CA again.

I'm not completely sure wether that is good or bad, but for me, I avoid auction cars in general and ma and pop dealers can go either way.

FYI.......most of the used cars on any dealer lot come from an auction.

Also sometimes if dealers can't sell a vehicle and it's been sitting on the lot they actually send the unsold vehicles that have been airing on the lots for a while to auctions. It doesn't mean there's anything particularly wrong with car it really because they need the space on their lots. So I response to what someone mentioned earlier Pre owned cars at dealers are a majority from auctions.

Right, I know. I just buy new or from a private individual. That's just my method though. I was just giving the OP my two cents.

Dealers also send cars to auction if they have to much inventory of the same vehicle already. Here is a perfect example I heard last week while shopping for an X3 for my wife. In the used showroom of a BWM dealer, there were two 3 series wagons. I gave them a quick glance just of of interest since you don't usually see 2 of them in the indoor showroom. The salesman said he actually just took a 3rd in from a trade-in and they were going to send it off to auction since they already had 2, but it was really clean with low miles. It was at the garage being prepped to put on the showroom floor and they'd either move one of the others off the floor, or send it to auction.

So, the dealers sometimes just send a nice and sometimes really nice car to the auction because they just don't have the room.
