Oil Change problems at shop

So I took my car in for the first oil change since I've bought this car. Anyhow this shop also replaced my alternator and battery few months ago. When I took it in for the oil change when I came back to pick the car up they said it had a major oil leak from the oil filter and gasket and had oil all over engine bay and over the alternator. And this voided warranty of alternator as well from being covered in oil. What do you think aout this? Sound legit??

Oil filter housing gasket is a common problem so it does sound legit. Was this a BMW shop or independent?

Independent shop. Really the only independent in my area.

Sounds fishy. Like they found a way to void a warranty on a part they just recently installed. Isn't the alternator above the oil filter housing gasket not below?

Do you see oli splashed all around your engine compartment? Like on underside of hood? Oils spots in parking spot when you got home?

Well the alternator is below from what I've seen. And I popped the hood the other day and searched around and seen a few spots there was oil. The parking spot, can't really check for sure because it's an apartment complex so someone is always taking someones spot and I only drive the BMW on the weekends really. Not my daily driver. But, in the spot I believe it was parked was some stains, snow recently melted and i checked it out. I think they did good by me, just wish before they just start charging and doing things they call first.
