Rev counter "return speed"?

Hi Guys, I hope you can help..

On the 5 series with SAT transmission - the rev counter moves _much_ faster than it does in a 3 series with the same transmission (and Alpina flash).

So that means the rev counter's "return speed" must be possible to change. I know that in the SAT upgrade on the 5 series there is a kombi update that needs to be done.

Anybody up for the task? It will probably need custom coding with tool32 - but it ought to be possible?

Perhaps that's a feature of the Alpina KOMBI flash...

SAT flash on the 5 series doesn't require the kombi to be coded... neither does alpina

Doesn't require it - but it is a part of the "SAT package".

Alpina has nothing to do with the kombi, that is only a gearbox update.

..But it must be possible to alter the "return speed" of the rev counter by using tool32?

That is not correct. There are Alpina KOMBI firmware variants in addition to EGS variants...

Good luck.

ZB 9280339 for HKOML2 is one example, among many...it's compatible with several LCI chassis variants with N47 and M47 engines.

Perhaps the SAT programming is just actually shifting faster and thus dropping the engine speed faster?

On euro models at least, on 2000cc diesel engines, even with Manual gearbox do the same between engines M47 and N47. On N47 rev pointer drops quicker than with M47.
I'd like to know if we can change that.

Finally solved it..

The video is not very good, I was fighting for grip and I did not have a long runway to test it at. But the speed of the revcounter is now improved. (This is very visible at the last gearchange in the video)

All it requires is a custom nettodat coding.

Start Tool32, press F3 and select KOMB87.

Choose the job Codierdaten_lesen and use 0x3103 as argument.

Now you get something like:

CODIERDATENBLOCK = 23 Bytes
0000 : 8E 17 03 34 00 DC 07 9B 0D 95 12 43 15 00 00 90 ?..4..? .?.C...
0010 : 06 7D 0B C1 0F 0E 12

8E is the checksum, 17 is the startposition of the needle (thus the lowest value the rev counter can show, more on that later)
The next value is the interesting, it is the dampening factor. The lower the value, the faster the needle moves.. The next values defines the scale, and the maximum - and the last, well dunno.

But changing the 03 to 00 will more or less disable the dampening factor.

So all you need is to create a custom nettodat file with the data needed. Set the checksum to FF, NCSExpert will correct it while writing. And then write the nettodat file to the kombi.

Done deal.

Thanks!!
So I transform what i've read on tool32 to nettodat and coded on ncsexpert?
EDIT:
I've read 0x3103 address and I got this:

Job ("komb87", "CODIERDATEN_LESEN", "0x3103")

JOB_STATUS = OKAY
_TEL_ANTWORT =
9A,F1,60,62,31,03,CD,21,03,33,00,DE,07,9D,0D,5D,13 ,48,15,00,00,90,06,7D,0B,6A,10,0E,12,B9
CODIERDATENBLOCK = CD,21,03,33,00,DE,07,9D,0D,5D,13,48,15,00,00,90,06 ,7D,0B,6A,10,0E,12

I've read it with DR.Gini. (tool32 for some reason dont want to be my friend )

It seems I've got 30 bytes. You got only 23.

Edit2
After looking for the bytes, I was looking on first lina, and should look on second line... So this part of what i've read seem like yours:
CD 21 03 33 00 DE 07 9D 0D 5D 13 48 15 00 00 90 06 7D 0B 6A 10 0E 12

you have this:
8E 17 03 34 00 DC 07 9B 0D 95 12 43 15 00 00 90 06 7D 0B C1 0F 0E 12

So, I do I transform this on Nettodat?

You need to manually create a nettodat file.

(This is your nettodat contents, _verify_ it is the right values! I take no responsibility.)

Cannot code it by NETTODAT.MAN.
Everytime I try to code it with costom nettodat, ncsexpert crashes. I can code a full nettodat file with no problem, mas this costom nettodat make my ncsexpert crash.
Could be that my file is bad?
I always code nottodat by chosing "coapiCodeSgByNettoData" function.
What could be?
Thanks

You specify a length of 17??? It's too long. Split into 2 lines. Should be ok...

Well, solved...
Problem: Maybe I need a pair of glasses...
Why: Because between bytes 6A and 10, almost on the ending of the sequence, somehow I lose the comma between the bytes...
So, put comma again, and voila! Worked!!
Thanks! Now will try to do the same for oil temperature

Any more videos.. What do we get when changing 03 to 00.. In the video rev counter is still slower and much more laggy than the E60 SAT

Doesn't seem that much different...

03 is a dampening value which slows the needle movement. Changing it to 00 reduces it.

For further investigation it would be necessary to read coding block from an e60 KOMBI to see how it compares.
