Any Way to Add Comfort Access Keyless Features??

I am shopping for an e90 335i and really am looking for a loaded car with a Kia budget LOL.

I want a white, black, or charcoal grey 335i with premium, sport, comfort access, nav, and black interior. yeah I know.. picky... but I am also struggling with the recent prices of used cars...

Anyway, is it possible to add the keyless open / start to a car that did not have comfort access to begin with? What would it cost to do so?

From what I have read, the cost would be far too much, if it's even possible to do it. I think your best bet is to try to find a car that already has it from the factory.

The keys alone are about $400 a piece, plus coding to the car. If you are on a budget, then adding this aftermarket would be far from within your budget.

Just have someone stay in the car and unlock and start the car for you.

Right now is a really bad time to buy a used BMW. It's a great time to sell however. Used car prices are really high right now. You're better off buying new.

CA is overrated, it doesn't always work properly. Just because it's standard on Kia's nowadays doesn't mean you have to have it on a BMW.

I would imagine there's alot of parts that go into it. People who have it and get used to it love it and can never go back (so they say).

I'm in your camp. I don't have it on my 335 but my wife does on her X5. About the only value is not having to put the key in to start. They whole lock/unlock works well maybe 70% of the time. The other 30% you're standing there thinking "just unlock the f-ing door with the key instead of caressing the door handle and asking me 5x if the door's open!!"

CA rocks for me. I think they got it right in 2011.

We have CA in our 2009 E90 and love it - works 100% of the time. Our 2008 X5 does not, and it is amazing how much I miss it when my wife and I switch vehicles.

From what I've read, it cannot be added after the fact without tearing the car apart (cost prohibitive).

I asked this same question on these forums 4 years ago and I was told that it is not possible to add CA after the build. My 07 did not have it and i wanted after i received my car, but now i have a new 2011 and it works just fine with CA.

they would have to rewire most of the car... the labor alone would make most reconsider. live with it for now and later you can trade in for a new one with ca

Are there any aftermarket products that could provide the same type of feature?

I'm considering a Viper 2 way pager alarm with remote start (had this in my accord for a long time and worked flawlessly) -- they now have a PKE add on which is "Passive Keyless Entry" which will accomplish the unlocking/locking part. But still would have to whip out the keys and plug it in the dash to start the car.

I'm not opposed to aftermarket so long as its from a reputable company and my car isn't the guinea pig for it lol

if it works sparatically your car battery might be on its way dying, not holding charge. Ours was doing the same, new battery, works 100% again.

It is most likely possible, but I would image it rather expensive and swapping out several parts.

The retrofit isn't that bad. It's the acquiring a new CA key for a VIN that doesn't have CA that's a pain.

CA is nice to have but it's only a feature and doesn't affect how the car drives. If you find everything in a car that you want except CA, don't can the deal because of that. Just my 2 cents.

If its something you really want, get it. Because if you don't, you will be pissed that you didn't. I know I am. I has a 335i before with CA and my current one doesn't. Everytime I have to carry something to put in my front seat with both hands and wish I could just pull the handle with my pinky finger and not dig into my pocket with my keys, pisses me off. And then if I have something else in my pocket on top of my keys, it pisses me off having to dig that out too. Especially if I managed to already be sitting in the car with my seat belt on then have to dig into my pocket so I can start the damn car. Sorry, just a rant. But the moral of the story is to get all the features that you think you will benefit from and don't want to live without.
